Douglas James Ubelaker, 73, passed away on November 29, 2024, at his home. He was born on March 26, 1951, to James and Helena (Boden) Ubelaker in Lucas, Kansas. Doug graduated from Osborne High School in 1969. He then graduated from Hutchinson Junior College and Fort Hays State University. After graduation, he returned home to Osborne. He worked for Town and Country Market and Hardman Lumberyard for a semester before returning to Ellis High School to do his student teaching. He returned again to Osborne and began his teaching career at Osborne High School. Doug met the love of his life, Linda Hurt, and they were married on August 5, 1978, in Ellis, Kansas.
Doug was a beloved teacher at Osborne High School for 47 years. He was athletic director for Osborne High School and Middle School for 39 years. He coached football, basketball, track, softball, and cheerleading. He loved refereeing and was able to referee both volleyball and basketball for over 50 years. His other love was the farm. He loved spending time doing anything at the farm and raising cattle.
Doug served many years on the Farm Bureau Board, St. Aloysius Catholic Church Parish Council, Osborne Recreation Commission Board, 4-H Club Leader and the Osborne County 4-H Council.
Doug is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda, of the home; his two daughters, Kelli (David) King of Phillipsburg, KS and Krisa (Joel) Schneider of Olmitz, KS; grandchildren, Brayden, Bryson, Brody King, and Peyton, Colt, Cade Schneider; siblings, Kenny (Shari) Ubelaker of Osborne, KS, Sandy (Greg) Smith of Hays, KS, and Judy (Joe) Gasper of Tipton, KS. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and numerous former students whose lives he touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Helena Ubelaker and in-laws Jim and Elsie Hurt.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Doug Ubelaker Memorial Fund.
