Edward Fraser Hitchcock, of Portsmouth, NH, passed away on January 7th, in a valiant attempt to recover from an acute injury.

He is predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Amanda Lou Carson Hitchcock

His parents Edward and Catherine Hitchcock and his sister, Betsy

He is survived by his loving wife, Carla McCabe

His children:       Kathleen Webb of Kittery, Maine

Suzanne and Daniel Passeri of Canton, Massachusetts

Edward and Heather Hitchcock of Wilbraham, Massachusetts

Amy Pellegrini of Bedford, New Hampshire and

Ellen Joan Karis of Portland, Oregon

His grandchildren: Carson, Ryan, Benjamin, Caroline, Trevor, Amanda, Bella, and Maxine.

His sisters, Carol and Cathy.

He was born on 1/1/1940 in New Haven, Connecticut.

Surviving the death of his father at the early age of 11, he bravely persevered as the oldest male in the family and began a truly accomplished and successful life journey.

After a successful academic career at Hillhouse High School in New Haven, he was admitted to and graduated from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. This was followed by an MBA in corporate finance at NYU.

In 1964, he started at Pitney Bowes and steadily climbed the corporate ladder and was appointed Executive Director of Corporate Finance. Based in the UK he was able to treat his family to an educational experience in Europe.

In 1988, he accepted a position as Senior Credit Advisors for “The Trust” in Massachusetts, developing many personal relationships with entities attempting to secure financing.

He retired and settled in Portsmouth, N.H. with Carla.

His many interests included gardening, following UConn basketball and the ups and downs of the beleaguered Pats.

Though clearly proud of his professional successes and personal accomplishments, what truly made his smile beam was any opportunity to share with, or boast of his grandchildren’s milestones, the happiness of his children, or the love he shared with Carla.

He was graced at the end of his life by the gift of having his family as a daily presence over his last month sharing stories, memories, and pistachio ice cream.

Through the pain of his attempted rehab, his dry humor was able to give more solace to those around him than he accepted from them.  He was even able to make his nurses blush and his attendants admire his strength and dignity to the very end.

He will be missed but always remembered by all he touched.

Services are scheduled for February 24, 2024, at 11 AM, and will take place at South Church in Portsmouth, NH.
