Edward Leroy McGarvey, age 85, of Goetzville, Michigan, went to be with the Lord, January 19, 2023. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on May 28, 1937, to Arthur Lawrence and Irene Vivian (Westrich) McGarvey. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David McGarvey.
He graduated from Creston High School and then served in the Navy. On July 25, 1960, he married Shirley Irene Davey in Grand Rapids. Later in life, looking for an adventure they moved to Goetzville and operated Mac's Landing. Then years later they moved to Pickford, and he worked at Pickford Public Schools as a bus driver/Transportation Supervisor, He retired and has been enjoying many of his hobbies, some were fishing with his grandchildren, gardening, wood carving birds, ducks with the woodcarving group in Cedarville and making game boards, bowls.
He was an active member of the Pickford Lion's Club, Stalwart Community Church; he was always coming up with ideas to help others in these groups by cooking or organizing projects.
Survived by his wife Shirley I. McGarvey; daughters, Kathleen (Alan) Hoffman of Hamilton and Sheila (Cameron) Smith of Grand Rapids; son Pat (LaRose) McGarvey of Caledonia; grandchildren Earl (Lauren) Batenburg, Eric (Brittany) Batenburg, Ben (Erin) Batenburg, Vivian Smith and Pennelope McGarvey; great-grandchildren Evelynne, River, Olivia, Harrison, and Jonas; sister-in-law Doris McGarvey; brother-in-law Richard (Sharyanne) Davey and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be announced on a later date.
