Etta Lee Wallace Jones, 92, transitioned to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. She was born December 18, 1932 in Charles City County, VA, the third of sixteen children to the late Summerfield & Rosetta Bradby Wallace. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Archer J. Jones, Sr.; siblings Emma, Willie Summerfield Jr., Arnette, Leon, Delois, Dallis, Rosa, Evan, Bobby and Maurice; and grandson Floyd H. Miles, Jr. (who gave her the nickname, "Mama Bean").
She accepted Christ as her Savior in August 1941, was baptized and joined Little Eam Baptist Church in September 1941. Etta was educated in the Charles City County School System. She lived in Baltimore for a short time where she worked at St. Lutheran Hospital, among many other places, including Coleville Nursery, Babcock Phillips, Tomato Factory, Plants Unlimited, and the Nabisco Cafeteria.
On March 24, 1951, Etta was united in holy matrimony with the love of her life, Archer Junius Jones (Sr.), and two sons were born to this union: Archer Jr. & Darus Jones. As they settled into married life, they decided to take in her sister, Clem, and raise her as their own.
Etta was a woman of faith who believed her children needed to be brought up knowing the Lord. She made sure her boys attended Sunday School and Church. Etta enjoyed singing with the Senior Choir and cooking for her Church family. She opened her home to everyone who needed it and was a caregiver to so many. She loved to entertain, travel (be it with her husband in the 18-wheeler, traveling with family and friends, or driving around the county) and she loved to eat! Etta never met a stranger-wherever she went, she made herself known, whether it be at the grocery store, at the mall, at the hospital or at dinner. She was cordial, kind, and loved to talk.
Etta leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted sons, Archer Jr. (Cheryl) and Darus (Paula) Jones; sister/daughter in love, Clem (Floyd Sr.) Miles; six (6) grandchildren, Andre', Tenesha and Krystle Jones (devoted), Michael (Lili), Jonathan (Stormie) and Sean (Karen) Miles; granddaughter in law, Denise Miles; twelve (12) great-grandchildren, Elijah Jones, Landon, Logan, Kaleyah, Jaiden, Mason, Breshai' and Argenai' Miles, Sara Whitehead, Steven Jr. (Jana & Jaylen), Rashad and Taequan Williams; Godsons, Sidney (Tavonya) Burton and Shyrone (Stacey) Wallace; Devoted Goddaughters, Elaine (Vernon) Waller, Charlotte (Oscar) Barbour and Shelly (Patrick) Archer; brother in love, Harold (Noonie) Jones Sr.; sons and daughters in love, Daniel Wallace, Sr., Patrick Evelyn, and Vertley Hopson; siblings, Joyce Crawley, Rev. Daniel (Phyllis) Wallace Sr, Anna (Dudley) Adkins, Dorothy (Michael) Armstead, Brenda (Wesley) Copling and Wilhemenia (Tyrone) Young; brother and sister in law, Clyde Allen and Elinor Wallace; devoted nieces and nephews, Rosetta (Waverly) Barnes, Betty (James) Booker, and Mary Wooten; loving and devoted caregiver, Casandra Allen (John); along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many devoted friends, including Dorothy (Dot) Brown, Anne Charity, Roland (Otelia) Charity, Pernell Charity, LouEthel Craddock, Violet (Gerrie) Harris, Hancy Hatchett and Martha Jones.
A funeral service will be held 11AM Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Little Elam Baptist Church, 8840 Church Ln, Charles City, VA 23030. A viewing will begin 2 hours prior to services.
