Publish in a newspaper

George N. Simmons was born in Bath County, Virginia on December 15, 1948. He lost his long battle with cancer and gained his angel wings on October 7, 2025, surrounded by what meant the most to him, his beloved family, at his home.
He is preceded in death by his parents Glen and Mava Simmons, brother Robert (Bobby) Simmons, son-in-law Mark Bristow and dear friend his brother-in-law John Brock.
He is survived by his loving, faithful, dedicated wife of 58 years, Doris Lindsay Simmons, his 3 sons Dean (Joanne), Bob (Donna) and Steve Simmons, daughter Tammy Bristow-Gray (Scott) all of Quinton, VA, his sister Sharon S Brock of Mill Gap, VA, 9 grandchildren: Jordan (Melissa) and James Bristow, Daniel (Brette), Phillip, Ginna, Ashley, Michala, Madison and Macy Simmons, 2 step-granddaughters Jessica and Angelina Gray, 6 great-grandchildren, Adelynn Coleman, Emmett, Raylan and Nora Bristow, Weston and Weslee Rae Browning and his lifetime friend Lloyd Christian plus several nieces and nephews.
He grew up in Bath County, Virginia on a dairy farm. He joined the Army in 1965. He worked hard throughout his life he worked for the Firestone Plant, owned his own fencing business while also running a farm, became an Electrical Engineer for Daniel's Construction at the Bath Country Pump Storage Plant and continued to work for them in other locations in Kansas, Iowa and Alabama. In 1986 he started his own electrical business, Simmons Electric, in Quinton, Va, that he retired from after 30 years.
He loved to be outdoors and working with his hands. He had the most gorgeous flowerbeds which he lovingly attended to because he knew how much his wife loved flowers and he loved her more than life. He made several pieces of furniture, wooden ornaments and gifts for the family that he designed and made from wood that he milled himself.
Having a close family meant everything to him. He dedicated his life to making sure we all knew the importance of loving and supporting each other. He loved to see the whole family come for Sunday dinner so he could watch the next generation grow up playing together.
Visitation will be at 1 pm and a Celebration of Life at 2 pm on October 11, 2025, at Hopewell Baptist Church, 5061 Hopewell Road, New Kent, VA 23124. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in his honor to Hopewell Baptist Church or any Veteran organization. Final interment will be at the family cabin in Back Creek, Virginia at 1 pm on October 25, 2025.
We want to give a special Thank You to the nurses at Gentiva for all the love and support.
