Gary Charles Belknap

Gary Charles Belknap of Barre, Vermont, age 81, died unexpectedly on July 9, 2024. He was born on March 1, 1943 in Barre City, the son of Richard Charles Belknap and Pearl Ayers Belknap. He graduated from Spaulding High School in 1961. Gary married his wife of 58 years, Arlie Buttura Belknap on April 23, 1966. He was employed in the Propane Industry for 43 years. He served in the Vermont Army National Guard from July 1961 to December 1970. He volunteered for a number of years for Vermont Fish and Game, The Mad River Valley Ambulance, Waitsfield Fire Department, Mad River Valley Little League and as a driver for Road to Recovery. He enjoyed his planning committee meetings for his Spaulding High School reunions. Gary was an avid hunter and enjoyed years at his FayDux Hilton Hunting camp. Gary and Arlie lived in the Mad River Valley for 52 years before moving back to Barre. Gary could be found each Friday morning at the Mutuo playing pitch with his buddies. He loved supporting his children and later his grandchildren's sporting events. He even chaperoned a high school trip to Germany. He loved hearing "Papa" come out of the mouths of his grand and great grandchildren. Gary lived life to the fullest. Family and friends meant the world to him. Gary is survived by his Wife Arlie of Barre; Daughter Teri and husband Kevin Hawley of Jericho, VT and their children, Meghan, Ryan and wife Samantha, Tyler and wife Michele and their sons Austin and Asher; Son Bradley (deceased), his wife Nicole of Fayston, VT and their children Thomas, and Alexis Belknap and her "husband" Griffin Kellett, and son Carter; Son Brett, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Crowley Belknap both of Fayston, VT, and their children Margaret "Maggie",and Damien; Sister Sandra Belknap Batchelder. And Many Family and Friends. Please join Gary's family for his burial at Hope Cemetery, Barre, Vermont at 11:00am on Friday, July 26, 2024. A Celebration of Life following burial is being planned.
