George Edward "Ed" Rogers, age 67 young, passed away at home with his family on March 16th, 2024, after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
Ed was born December 29, 1956, in Fukuoka, Japan to Lt. Col. USAF Alexander Lowndes Rogers Sr. and Georgia Nell Reed Rogers. Their family had the opportunity to travel and live many places such as Germany, California, Oklahoma, Colorado and finally, Austin.
Ed married his lovely wife Connie in 1991. The couple enjoyed traveling the US together, going hiking and exploring national parks. They had one daughter in 1994, Jamie A. Rogers. Ed took on the role of soccer dad & spent his weekends taking Jamie to soccer games where some years he would coach & other years act as the team photographer.
Ed worked many jobs in his career. His last & most challenging, which he loved, was at the Texas Lottery Commission. A 30-year veteran of the Texas Lottery Commission, Ed wore many hats over the years and was extremely valuable to the organization. Ed's career and skill as a Lottery "Troubleshooter" led him to serve in many diverse capacities at the Texas Lottery. His willingness to accept new challenges and ability to quickly analyze issues and identify solutions allowed him to become a true Lottery Guru.
Serving as the Retailer Licensing Supervisor at lottery start-up in 1992, Ed dealt with a myriad of licensing challenges inherent with getting 15,000 lottery retailer locations up and selling tickets in 90 days. Building on that experience, Ed became well versed over the next few years in all thing's lottery.
His institutional knowledge, and the intuitive sensitivities he developed since inception in dealing with an array of issues and their potential impact on both internal and external customers, enabled Ed to serve in these positions, each with resounding success & went on to win the prestigious Powers award for the TX lottery administration category in 2012.
Ed will never lose his unofficial title of "troubleshooter" of the Texas Lottery.
Ed loved camping, hiking, reading, going to the farm & dogs. When he wasn't out helping with farm chores on the weekend, you could find him on the couch with a hefty book in his hands & a dog at his side.
Special thanks to Texas Oncology & Hospice Austin.
Ed is survived by his wife Connie & daughter Jamie (Devin & grand dog Darla), his brothers Al & Linda, Don & Martine, and sister Suzanne, along with his father-in-law Philip Ford, brother-in-law John & Susan, sister-in-law, Phyilis & John and many nieces and nephews.
He will be missed!
