Georgia Ann Buckmaster

Georgia Ann Mentis Buckmaster passed away at Bethel Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, September 2, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was 77 years old.
Georgia was born on January 17, 1947, to Nikos "Nick" and Metaxia "Meta" (Rorris) Mentis in Muncie, Indiana. A daughter of Greek immigrants, she was proud of her heritage, attending Greek school as a child and speaking the language at home.
After graduating from Muncie Central High School in 1965, Georgia earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Ball State University in 1969.
While completing her bachelor's degree, Georgia met her future husband, Stuart Buckmaster, at a New Year's Eve party ringing in 1967. The two got engaged in February and married in August of that year. She graduated with her master's degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Reading from Ball State University in 1973.
Georgia loved teaching children at Blue River Valley Schools. She later became a stay-at-home mom to her children and a caregiver to her grandchildren in their early years. She enjoyed knitting baby sweaters – completing over 125 of them – baking and reading.
For many years, she helped her parents in their family business, Normandy Florists, in downtown Muncie. Georgia was also extremely active in the Muncie Civic Theatre community, participating in every aspect from acting and singing to set design.
Georgia is survived by her husband of 57 years, Stuart Buckmaster, and their three children: Todd Buckmaster, Jennifer Bow (Curtis), and Megan Buckmaster-LaPeer (Tim). Her younger brother, Peter Mentis (Gayla) survives as well. She was the extremely proud grandmother to four grandchildren: Justin Buckmaster, Brendan Bow, Danielle Worland (Kody), and Eleni Bow.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the caretakers and staff at Bethel Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center. They also wish to thank Brian Lumpkin, MD, Jonathan Berkowitz, MD, and the entire staff at IU Health Ball Memorial Cancer Center for their years of care.
Calling will be Friday, September 6, 2024 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm, with the service immediately following at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Elm Ridge Cemetery.
