Graveside Services for Gerald Allan Little, Jr, 80 of Toxey, Alabama will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Mosley Cemetery in Gilbertown, Alabama with Peggy Tyson officiating. Public Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. underneath the tabernacle and burial services to follow at 2:30 p.m.
Gerald Allan Little, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at his residence in the Morgan Chapel Community on Ararat Road. He was born February 22, 1944, in Astoria, Oregon to Gerald Allan Little, Sr. and Dorothy Helen Storey Little. He was a resident of San Diego, California until February 1969 when he moved to Mobile, Alabama. He retired after 40 years from Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, where he had been an Engineering Section Manager. His work took him to many places around the world. He was recognized by the U.S. Navy as a recipient of the Aegis Excellence Award for his work as a Program Manager for Ingalls Shipbuilding in Yokosuka, Japan from 1996 until 2001. In November 1991, he married Sandra Jenkins Crosswell Valdez from Choctaw County, Alabama. He and Sandra moved to Choctaw County in 2012 after retirement. In his early life, he excelled in junior golf and became a champion golfer, leaving a legacy of trophies. To his last days, he was a scratch golfer no matter how many years it had been since he had played. He could have easily chosen to become a professional golfer, but he elected to have a family and pursued that lifestyle instead. He was a doting and beloved husband, father, and "all-in" grandfather. He was always doing and caring more for others than himself. He never met a stranger and if he did, they became friends in short order. He will always be remembered for his fabulously contagious smile because it truly lit up the room.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Little; son, Brian Allan Campbell (Elizabeth) Mobile, Alabama; son, Gerald Allan Little III, Elijay, Georgia; daughter, Tamara Jane Kennedy (Michael), Tampa, Florida ; daughter, Stephanie Ann Gibson McGowan (Stephen), Tampa, Florida; daughter, Kristina Michelle Crosswell Johnson (Bruce), Madison, Mississippi; grandchildren; Michaela Nicole Kennedy Rosati (Joey), McKenzie Elizabeth Kennedy Lehnhardt (Dillon), Caroline Hampton Gibson, Keith Legare Gibson, Jr., Robert Campbell Gibson, Rachael Grace Campbell, Amelia Jane Campbell, Gabrielle "Gigi" Emilynn Little, Grayson Banks Johnson, Carlisle Brooke Johnson and brother-in-law, Curtis Lenoir Jenkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Allan Little, Sr. and Dorothy Helen Storey Little, his grandparents, George Guy Storey and Helene Marie Michel of San Diego, California and Arthur Frederick Little and Mabel Marguerite Trott of Pembroke, Maine,
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Choctaw County Historical Museum, P. O. Box 162, Gilbertown, Alabama 36908 have been requested by the family.

"Jerry" and I were part of that same senior lawn lunch gang Tom Burke
mentioned in his entry. of that group.....Ron Felker, Gary Riley, Steve
Powers and now "Jerry" are all gone. May they all rest in peace. I'm
glad I was in the eighth grade golf club with Gerald. The only problem
I had........he was always bugging me for tips and instructions. I am
glad, in later years we visited by phone and exchanged Xmas cards.

I went to junior high and high school with Gerald Little. We always remained casual friends, often eating lunch together on the senior lawn at Point Loma High School in San Diego. I think one of our high school annuals the inside cover and fly leaf had a senior lawn lunch picture that included him. He was also friends with J.C. McClain, Steve Powers, Ron Felker, and Tom Cresci, also shown in the picture.

Gerald was a nice kid and, from what his obituary said, continued that throughout his life.

I think I can still get in touch with J.C. McClain so maybe I can let him know. I can still see the two of them walking across the Point Loma High School field, laughing together while getting out of their caps and gowns on graduation day.

Somehow we got hooked up on the phone together maybe 5-10 years back. As I find his obituary published, I'm glad I got a final opportunity to have a nice conversation. At our ages, if we don't take those opportunities, they'll never come again.
