H.A. Thompson, 84, of Berry, KY, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2021. Born on November 12, 1937 in Boyd, KY, he was a son of the late Hubert and Violette Cynthia Dunaway Thompson. On May 6, 1961, he married Margaret Louise Salyers Thompson, and together they farmed, raised their children, and offered a helping hand to friends and family. H.A. tended the garden and shared the harvest, cared for the horses, goats, cats, and coon-hounds, and always found time to sit under the shade of his favorite tree. He worked as a lineman with ATT for 34 years and belonged to the Marcus Crooked Creek Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army from Nov.5, 1958 to Oct. 25, 1960. He will be remembered as a solid and wonderful man who loved his family and friends.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, Louise, he is survived by two children blessed to have him as their Dad: Rhonda (Brent) Moore of Butler, KY and Joel Kelly Thompson of Berry, KY; two grandchildren: Caitlin (Jimmy) Courtney and Ethan Moore (Sydney Bradford); two great grandchildren: Rowen Courtney and Sawyer Moore; eight siblings: Bill (Eva) Thompson, Ted (Pat) Thompson, Ann (Bruce) Stahley, Kay Bailey, Donna Thompson, Nancy (Rick) King, David (Wanda) Thompson, and Cindy (Shannon) Bartlett; his aunt Dolly Jean Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Joel Wesley Thompson; a sister, Jackie Carol Thompson; and a brother-in-law, Sam Bailey.
Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry, with Jim Mitchell officiating. The visitation will be from 1-3 pm on Friday preceding his service. At the request of the family, masks are required. Interment will take place in the Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry, with full military honors by the Hardin-Browning Post #109. Memorials are suggested to the Marcus Crooked Creek Baptist Church: 39 Jacks Branch Road, Berry, KY 41003
