James S. Hill of Calhoun, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2023, with his wife by his side.
He was born February 23, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Aaron Hill and Jane Moberly Hill and was raised in Plainfield, Illinois. He graduated from DePaul University with a Psychology degree and went on to join the United States Army serving in counterintelligence, his first duty station was in Sioux Falls and was eventually deployed to Vietnam in January 1967 at the height of the Tet Offensive.
Due to his love of detail, writing skills, and intelligence background, Jim was accepted in the FBI where he eventually met his future wife Carolyn. They married in August1970, and life was never the same. They moved from DC to Media Pa, to Little Ferry NJ (hello Kevin), to Monterey Calif, to Homewood IL. (hello Jason), to Minooka Il, to Acworth Ga, finally to retire peacefully in Calhoun.
Jim loved golf although never an expert, he did get his one and only hole-in-one at Eagle Watch Country Club October 1, 1997. His collection of old hickory clubs, balls, canvas bags, and pictures filled his office. Retirement from the Bureau meant a whole new lifestyle for him. He learned to use a bucket truck, plow, and rototiller and loved to mow the many acres around the house.
He was a member of the American Chestnut Foundation, Knights of Columbus, Theta Chi Fraternity, Gordon Master Gardeners and St Clements Catholic Church where he served on the Finance Council. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, sons, Kevin and Jason, and grandsons James, Logan, and Carson as well as his sister Judy Niemeyer.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted Saturday, September 2nd at 10am at the St. Clements Catholic Church with Father Carlos G. Ortega officiating. Inurnment will follow Tuesday, September 5th in the Georgia National Cemetery with Military Honors afforded by the United States Army.
