Janet (Stephenson) Lupp Pietrzak, age 89, of Erie passed on Friday, December 2, 2022. She was born in Erie on December 15, 1932, a daughter of the late Ernest and Bernice (Adams) Stephenson. She was a native and lifelong resident of Erie, PA.
Wonderful, caring, loving, generous and giving, Janet showed us all how to be a good mother. Every one of her family members benefited from this gift. Her biggest and proudest accomplishment was successfully raising six children to be independent and caring. Janet was always there for her children and family during the tough times, rough journeys and more with her loving touch.
Children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, stepchildren, their spouses, relatives and friends all got to experience Janet's love and funny sense of humor, especially when they opened the door to her Mooreheadville or Amherst Road home.
Janet was the best cook in the world. Best known for chocolate chip cookies, turkey stuffing recipe from her grandmother (onions made her cry), peanut butter balls, fudge at Christmas and so much more. Her warm-hearted kitchen always had something for everyone including her hugs. Sharing a cup of hot tea with Nana could make all your problems disappear.
She was a volunteer as well as President of Twins Club in Erie. She also made a point of volunteering during Thanksgiving, to help the less fortunate. Janet helped all in so many ways.
Christmas was over the top, with blue Christmas tree lights, decorations, talking trees, presents, fruit cake and more. She loved hosting Christmas and making the memories extra special. Family and friends gatherings together always brought out Nana's irresistible smile as she enjoyed laughing and joking with her family.
Her other talents included being gifted with a beautiful voice and her family loved to hear her singing in the kitchen along with the music. Nana loved to dance and knew how to shake her rump, especially to a Bruce Springsteen song.
Nothing mattered more to her in life than family. She adored babysitting her grandchildren including step-grandchildren and making them feel really, really special when she saw them. Spoiling them was at the top of the list. They got away with everything with Nana. Summer vacations provided fun memories at places like Waldameer, the Peninsula and Chautauqua. She'd always have a ready supply of Stefanelli's chocolates hidden in her basement for grandkids to discover.
Nana was so full of life and joy with a feisty and hilarious personality. We are so thankful for our Mom and will miss her greatly, but we thank the Lord every day for giving her to us.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Carl "Corky" Pietrzak; siblings, Bill Stephenson, Jean Faller, Jack Stephenson, Lila Yost, Leroy Stephenson, an infant sibling; and a step granddaughter, Gracie Powell.
She is survived by her children, Colleen (Bill) Yeadon, Karen (Lupp) Johnson, Carl Lupp, Gary Lupp, Denise (Lupp) Szydlowski and Diane (Steve) Pappas; stepchildren Janet (John) Boetger and Karen (Scott) Powell; brothers, James and Robert Stephenson; grandchildren Sara (William) Zerkel, Nicole (Steve) Long, Jennifer (Chris) Hoffman, Marc Mancini, Kevin Lupp, Shawn Szydlowski, Miguel Szydlowski and Kevin (Jennifer) Langer, step grandchildren, J.C. Boetger, Eli Boetger, Jake Powell, Zack Powell and Vivian Powell; and great grandchildren, Emma Zerkel, Oliver Long, Hannah Long, Ellanora Angel Szydlowski, Finnegan Hoffman, Ashley (Tyler) DeCrapio, Logan Langer, Alexis Langer, Katelynne Langer and Abby Langer.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial, Saturday, December 17th at 10 am at St. Luke Church, 421 East 38th Street. Private inurnment at St. Paul Episcopal Cathedral columbarium.
