Janis was born March 1, 1956, in Des Moines, daughter of Marvel and Thelma (Sargent) Clarke. She attended school in Des Moines and graduated from Hoover High School in 1974. She graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1977. She continued her education at Drake University, receiving her bachelor's and master's degrees in science, progressing to obtain her Nurse Practitioner license. She worked at various care centers and hospitals in Des Moines throughout her career.
In her free time, she enjoyed scrapbooking, photography, and spending time with her grandchildren. She participated in service through mission trips and various community organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Mark Clarke.
Janis is survived by her son Christopher (Jessica) Timmons, sister Mary (David) Arnold, two grandchildren, Carter and Eli Timmons, nieces and nephews Nathan, Caroline, Sarah, Elizabeth and Andrew.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines. A graveside service and burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Indianola.
