Jennifer Medellin Lopez, a beacon of love and spirited kindness, passed away suddenly on May 11, 2025, in her hometown of
San Antonio, Texas. Born on September 24, 1973, Jennifer's life was a testament to the power of nurturing and uplifting those around her. She was a cherished daughter, partner, mother, stepmother, sibling, aunt, godmother, and friend. Her contagious laughter and passion for life left an unforgettable mark on everyone she met.
Jennifer's journey began as the beloved daughter of the late Edward Medellin and surviving Selma Medellin, and stepdaughter to Santos Perez Jr. She was the proud granddaughter of her dear departed grandparents, Enrique & Bersabe Ramirez and Gregorio & Elida Medellin. She was a shining star in the Medellin family, growing alongside her siblings Edward Gregorio Medellin, Mario Alberto Medellin (Sally), and Maricela Medellin Gaona (John). Jennifer's heart knew no bounds; she adopted her cousin Yvette Ramirez (Armando) as a sister, further extending her love and care. The family tree flourished with the joy of her nephews, Adrian, Sebastian, Savien, Aaron, her nieces Aerabella, Serenity, Savanna, Melissa, and Ariana, and the sparkle of her great-niece Camila.
Jennifer's life was a shared journey with her lifelong partner, Alfonso Munoz. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including daughters Summer Dawn Lopez and Kelly Mariah Lopez, and stepsons David and Nathan Munoz. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth, laughter, and the aroma of old and new recipes she loved to explore.
A respected member of the educational community, Jennifer dedicated her life to the nurturing of young minds. Jennifer was a guiding light in the field of early childhood education. She earned an Associate of Science in Early Childhood Development from Northwest Vista College and St. Philip's College. She excelled as an Early Childhood Assistant Director, Early Childhood Administrator, Curriculum Specialist, and Peer Coach. Her exemplary service and dedication earned her the prestigious Jule Sugarman Distinguished Staff Award, an honor that spoke volumes, recognizing her unwavering commitment to children and families.
Jennifer's interests were as rich and varied as her love for life. A devout follower of her faith, she found solace and strength in 'coffee with Jesus,' journal writing, and Bible journaling. Her devotion extended to her community, where she was an active member of her church, bringing light and guidance to all those around her. As it is written, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). Jennifer truly lived by these words, her life a shining example for us all. Her spirit was nourished through prayer, family gatherings, and the simple joy of cooking. Jennifer's adventurous palate led her to explore new restaurants, coffee shops, and bakeries, always eager to share her discoveries with friends.
The world was her canvas, and Jennifer painted it with the vibrant colors of her hobbies, which included watching her favorite novelas, thrifting, helping others, and nurturing her beloved plants and sunflowers. She had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, reflected in her love for reading that was only matched by her passion for storytelling, often giving detailed accounts that captivated her audience. Jennifer's laughter was infectious; once she started giggling, there was no stopping her. She was the life of every game night, relishing in the camaraderie of Bingo and other games with family and friends.
Jennifer's legacy is not only in the lives she touched but also in the way she lived her life with unbridled joy and boundless love. She was the embodiment of the quote by Maya Angelou, "Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud." Indeed, Jennifer was that rainbow, bringing color to the clouds of all who knew her.
Jennifer's love for her family was mirrored by the love she had for her pets, Morris the cat and Snoopy the bunny, who were her constant companions. Her warmth extended to her uncles Henry (Angie), Abel, Jose Antonio, Manuel (Sylvia), aunts Lydia (Henry), Constancia (Andrew), the late Guadalupe, Selina, and Sandra, as well as her numerous cousins, extended cousins, and a multitude of friends.
As we gather to celebrate the life of Jennifer Medellin Lopez, we remember a woman who lived with purpose and passion, who loved deeply and laughed heartily, and whose spirit will continue to inspire those she has left behind. She now rests in the arms of our Lord, where we will one day join her to share in the glory of His presence.
