Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez, affectionately known as Lupita to her friends and family, was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. Born on October 12, 1947, in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, Maria was a woman whose presence was felt like a warm embrace. On October 28, 2025, at the age of 78, Maria passed away in
San Antonio, Texas, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Maria's life was a testament to the strength and beauty of the human spirit. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Jose Gonzalez, for 49 years, and together they built a life filled with laughter and love. As a loving mother, she poured her heart and soul into raising her daughters, Jennifer Coronado and Selina Cruz, and cherished every moment with her youngest, Jacqueline Gonzalez. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she embraced her roles as a mother, mother-in-law to Leonardo Coronado and Pablo Cruz, with grace and joy. Though Maria was a dedicated housewife, she was so much more than that. She was the heart of her home, creating an environment where love bloomed as beautifully as the flowers in her garden. Her passion for gardening was evident in the vibrant colors and sweet fragrances that surrounded her home, a reflection of the care she put into every aspect of her life. Maria's Christian faith was the compass by which she navigated life's journey. It was the source of her strength, her patience, and her boundless capacity for kindness. She lived by the words of Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," and her life was a living example of this powerful truth. Her interests extended beyond the tranquility of her garden to the excitement of dance floors and the intimate settings of restaurants where she enjoyed date nights with her beloved Jose. Her laughter was infectious, her sense of humor a gift that she freely shared, lighting up rooms and lifting spirits. To describe Maria as beautiful, loving, kind, and funny is to touch upon the very essence of who she was. She gave love unconditionally, offered kindness without expectation, and brought joy through her humor. Those who had the privilege of knowing Maria were touched by her generosity of spirit and the warmth of her presence. As we remember Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez, let us celebrate the life of a woman who was not only cherished by her family but by everyone whose life she touched. Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and faith-a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide us. In honor of Maria's life, let us hold close the words of Mother Teresa: "Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier." Maria did just that, and our world is brighter for it. We bid farewell to Maria, knowing that her spirit will continue to nurture and guide us just as her hands once tended her garden. May we find comfort in the knowledge that she rests in the eternal embrace of her Savior, and may her memory continue to be a source of joy and inspiration to us all.
