Benson, NC: Mr. Jimmy Nelson Massengill, Sr., age 79, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at WakeMed in Raleigh surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00AM-Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Cathy Mooney and Mr. Bill Daniels. Burial will follow in the Massengill Family Cemetery in Meadow.
Mr. Massengill was born on November 24, 1943 in Johnston County, NC to the late James David and Helen Lee Massengill. He was preceded in death by his brother, John David Massengill and sister-in-law, Bonnie Massengill. Mr. Massengill graduated from Meadow High School in 1962 and North Carolina State University in 1966. He was co-owner of James Massengill and Sons Construction Company and a member of Unity Presbyterian Church in Newton Grove. He was a member of the Johnston County Farm Bureau and Johnston County Airport Authority for many years. Mr. Massengill enjoyed flying, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Kaye T. Massengill; children, Jimmy Nelson Massengill, Jr. of Benson, Suzanne Beasley and husband, Scott of Benson, Karla Allen and husband, Travis of Benson, Brian Massengill and wife, Angela of Benson; grandchildren, Kayla Allen and fiancé, Chris McIntosh, Cody Allen, Trey Massengill, Cameron Massengill, Hannah Beasley, and Tyler Beasley; sister, Ann Massengill Ortiz and husband, Francisco “Paco” of Benson; brother, Tony Massengill of Benson; sisters-in-law, Sandra Daniels and husband, Bill of Benson, Judy Massengill of Cary; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson and other times at the home.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Unity Presbyterian Church, c/o Ann Barefoot, 11551 NC 50 Newton Grove, NC 28366.
The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Also, a special thank you to the WakeMed Heart Center Staff for their compassionate care during Mr. Massengill’s illness.
