Joanne (Jones) Coleman, age 66, of Erie, passed away at UPMC Hamot on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Born in Erie on January 28, 1957, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence C. Jones, Sr., and Ethel Lee (Quince) Jones.
Joanne was a 1975 graduate of Academy High School. She worked at Penelec for over 40 years, starting as a meter reader, and retiring as a senior storekeeper. Throughout her lifetime she enjoyed fishing, bowling, bingo, gardening, planting flowers in the yard, garage sales, watching the cooking channels, and shopping. She loved and adored dogs. She was a God-fearing woman who read her daily inspirational word of the day every morning. Mom loved decorating the house for the holidays, especially Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. She was a beautiful woman inside and out. Her soul, spirit, smile, and beautiful eyes were captivating to anyone who met her. She was loving, caring and hard working. Mom was a single mother. She was tough but determined to instill in her children: values, respect, character and to never let go of your faith. She was a wonderful grandmother, and had a special bond with her grandson, Jeremiah.
Besides her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hayley Talyah Jones, a niece, Tamika Jones, and a brother, Wayne Jones.
She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Willie Coleman, of Erie; two children, Latece Jones, fiancé, Germal Smith, of Erie, and Jason Jones, of Jacksonville, Fla.; two step-children, Willie L. Coleman, Jr., of Erie, and Moniasha S. Coleman, of Virginia; a grandson, Jeremiah Amir Jones; four siblings, Portia Britton, of Kennesaw Ga., Sister Vanessa Walker, husband, Rev. Dr. Curtis Walker, of Akron, Ohio, Sandra Jones, of Erie, and Lawrence C. Jones, Jr., of Los Angeles; her dear, lifelong friend, Joyce Henderson, and Joyce's daughter, Catherine, of Erie; several nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and cousins.
Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 E. 38th Street, on Thursday, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. A funeral service will be held there at 3 p.m. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home, and memorials can be made to any charity of one's choice.
