John Harold Baxter, age 76, passed away April 21, 2023.
He was the first born child of Dorothy (Lamb) Baxter and Stanley Baxter on December 7, 1946 in Ida Grove, IA. They lived in Galva, Iowa on a farm for the first 13 years of his life. He graduated from Dunlap High School in 1965. After high school, John received a basketball scholarship to Eagle Grove Jr College where he earned an Associates of Arts degree in 1967 and went on to Iowa State for a year. He was then drafted into the Army where he served for 2 years and received the rank of Sergeant E5. Over the years, John worked for Ideal/Watkins, Iowa Beef Processors, and Combined Truck Repair. He retired in 2008 after 22 years with Special Transit. He loved to work on older Chevys and was a member of the Midland Nomad Club where he was secretary and treasurer. He was also a member of First Christian Church since 1972, where he was part of the bus ministry.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Stanley.
He is survived by his sons, Aaron Baxter (Kelly), Adam Baxter; daughter, Jacyntha Staudte (Brent); brother, Richard Baxter; sisters, Rebecca Hartweg, Laura Goldsmith (Gerald); grandchildren, Camden Baxter, Joslyn Baxter, Hadley Baxter; and a host of other family and friends.
Memorial service is Friday, May 19, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors during the hour prior to the service, also at the funeral home. Interment is in the Ida Grove, Iowa Cemetery. The family will direct memorials.
