John Frederic Lau, Jr., 89, of Plainfield, IL, passed away with his family by his side on January 13, 2024. He was born on August 9, 1934, in Minneapolis, MN, to Marjorie nee Johns and John Frederic Lau, Sr.
Loving father of David (Kristine) Lau and Jennifer (Jeff) Agan. Dear grandfather of Rachael, Rebecca, and Sarah Lau. John is also survived by his sister Julie (Marco) Benassini, many nieces and nephews, and his longtime partner Elsie Bair.
John was preceded in passing by his wife of 42 years, Arlene nee Horwitz Lau, his sisters Mary Susan Galvin and Judy Casey, and his parents.
John grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and attended Minneapolis West High School, class of 1953. John enlisted in the Marines in 1954, and proudly served in Korea. Upon discharge, he earned his associate degree from the University of Minnesota. He worked in the plastics manufacturing industry from the late 1960s until his retirement in 2003 as CEO of TLC Polyform. John raised his family in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and was a longtime resident of the Twin Cities before moving to Illinois to live near his grandchildren.
John was a long-time member of various horticultural and plastics industry organizations. Throughout his life John enjoyed boating, golf, reading, and helped plan reunions for his high school class. In retirement, he was an avid cribbage player at the Eden Prairie Senior Center. Upon moving to Illinois in 2013, John was an active member of the Oswego Senior Center.
Inurnment and Service will be held at Lakewood Cemetery, 3600 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, on Friday February 16th at 12:00 PM. A celebration of life will follow at Jess and Jennifer Agan's home.
