John Edward McCluskey, Sr., aged 83, passed away on August 10, 2024, in Lavallette, New Jersey. Born on September 21,1940, in Bronx, NY, John was a cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend known for his quick wit, generous spirit, and love for his family.
As a young man, John proudly served in the National Guard for four years, demonstrating his dedication and service to his country. Professionally, he worked for over 30 years at Con Edison as a Customer Service Representative before retiring in 2000.
John is survived by his loving wife, Irene, and their children: Maureen Radday (Kevin), John McCluskey (Meg), and Daniel McCluskey (Heather). His joy in life was further multiplied by his grandchildren, Jack, Daniel, Kaelin, Alexandra, Claire, Hailey, Ellie, and Elizabeth and his step granddaughters Callie, Meaghan and Katie Radday. He also leaves behind his siblings, Mary Ann Reilly (nee McCluskey) and James McCluskey. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie McCluskey, and his brother, William McCluskey.
John will be sorely missed by his family and friends. A dedicated husband and father who epitomized the values of love, hard work and responsibility, he devoted himself to providing for his family, ensuring that they never lacked for anything. His unwavering commitment to his loved ones shone through in everything he did, from meticulously caring for his home and being actively involved and present in his children's lives as they grew up, to spending countless hours babysitting his young grandchildren in their early years.
John's life was a testament to the power of strong family bonds; he led by example, showing his children the importance of respect, kindness, and togetherness. Through his actions, he built a family rooted in love and mutual support, leaving behind a legacy of strong relationships and cherished memories. John was the life of every party, often entertaining his family and friends for hours by singing his favorite Irish songs or playing the musical spoons.
Although he suffered many health challenges over the past nine years, John's sense of humor never wavered. He loved to laugh and joke, and enjoyed reliving stories of the great times and adventures he shared with his friends and close family members. As physical activity became more challenging, he spent time playing Soduku, watching sports and playing cards and games with his grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Ella Assabahi for the compassionate love and care she showed to our dad over the past two years.
A funeral mass for John will be held on Friday, August 16 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Stony Point, NY, and he will be laid to rest at 12:30 p.m. at St. Raymond's Cemetery in Bronx, NY. Friends and family are invited to join in a Celebration of Life at Rory Dolan's Restaurant in Yonkers, NY at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The National Kidney Foundation in his memory. The arrangements are being handled by TJ McGowan and Sons in Garnerville, NY.
John's presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and laughter will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

McCluskey Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you all in my prayers. My fondest memory of Mr. McCluskey was when me and another buddy came to visit his son John at their shore house in NJ for the 4th of July back in 1995. Mr & Mrs McCluskey welcomed us in like we were part of the of family. I remember sitting on the back deck having a few beers and Mr McCluskey was telling us stories that had us all laughing for hours. He was a great man with a great family.
