Johnny Brewer Reed, 93, of Inverness, passed away March 8, 2023, at his home. He was born June 27, 1929, to Susie Brewer Reed and Johnny Whitten Reed at the Brewer Place on the Sunflower River. He attended school in Cary, Indianola, Gulf Coast Military Academy and was a 1947 graduate of Inverness High School. He attended Mississippi State University before he started farming with his dad and continued farming for over thirty years. He owned and operated J. B. Reed Trucking and J. B. Reed Irrigation for several years. In 1979, he traveled to Atlanta and joined the Mississippi delegation of the American Agriculture Movement on a tractorcade to Washington DC. Johnny served on the board of the Inverness Co-Op Gin. He was a charter member of Steele Bayou Hunting Club and a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He is a member of the Inverness United Methodist Church. In the 1980's he agreed to become the president of the Men's Club as long as our minister at the time, Rev. John Moore, would assist him.
Johnny was a generous fun loving man and would actually give "the shirt off his back" to anyone in need. He loved flying and telling his flying stories throughout the years beginning with the first airplane he owned, an old Cub, followed by the Aerocoupe, and Cessna. Family vacations meant a trip to Panama City or Marathon where he enjoyed fishing with his dad.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Celeste Kemp Reed; daughter, Suzanne Reed Jefcoat (Milton); son, Johnny Brewer "Rusty" Reed, Jr. (Robin); son, William Hamilton Reed (Mary Sue) ; brother, James Reed (Carolyn); grandchildren, John Justin Jefcoat (Amanda), Tommy Reed Jefcoat (Elizabeth), John Wood Reed (Natalie), Marquis Tankesly Reed (Anna), William Hamilton "Will" Reed, Jr. (Amanda), John Price Reed, Ashley Reed Roney (Michael), Erin Reed Stowers (William) and 15 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Brewer Reed and Clint "Buddy" Reed.
Special thanks to Dr. Eddie Donahoe, Staff at South Sunflower County Hospital, Staff at Indianola Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center and Hospice of North Sunflower.

I was never around Johnny long enough to get to know him very well; but he was always friendly and interesting to listen to. He had lots of stories from his life experiences.

My condolences to Celeste and all his family members and his many friends.
