Joseph Erwin Glass, known affectionately to all as Joe, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024, at the age of 97. A funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 501 N. Saginaw St., Durand, MI 488429. Pastor John Glass will officiate. Interment immediately following with military honors at Byron Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 AM until the time of service.
Born on May 29, 1927, in Flint, Michigan to the late Roswell and Gertrude (Johnson) Glass. A faithful and active member of the 7th Day Adventist Church in Owosso, Joe's faith was the guiding force in his life. He lived his beliefs through his actions, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer words of encouragement. Joe's church community benefited greatly from his unwavering commitment and generous spirit.
A proud veteran, Joe served his country in the United States Army during World War II. His service was a defining experience, instilling in him values of discipline and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life. After his military service, Joe returned to his roots in Michigan, where he became a cornerstone of the agricultural community.
Joe dedicated his life to the farming business, becoming a respected figure in the industry. As the owner and operator of Miller Road Dairy in Flint, he worked tirelessly to provide for his family and contribute to the local economy. His passion for agriculture extended beyond his own endeavors, as he was a supporter of the Byron Future Farmers of America (FFA).
Joe's interests reflected his outgoing and adventurous personality. He never missed an opportunity to meet new people and make lasting connections, embodying the spirit of someone who truly never met a stranger. Travel and golf were among his favorite pastimes, allowing him to explore new horizons and challenge himself on the greens. His friendly demeanor and adventurous spirit made him a beloved figure both at home and on his many travels.
Those who knew Joe would describe him as friendly, adventurous, and faith-filled. His presence was a source of comfort and joy to his family, friends, and acquaintances. Joe's life was one of meaningful relationships, steadfast commitment to his work, and an unwavering dedication to his faith.
Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judi, his parents, Roswell and Gertrude (Johnson) Glass, and his siblings, Maxine, Fred, and Pete Glass. His memory will be forever honored and preserved by his children, Casey (Jennifer) Glass, Joel (Charlene) Glass, Michael (Stella) Glass, Theresa Glass, and Peggy Glass. Joe was the proud patriarch of a large and loving family, including 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
