Every day is an adventure. Words that Tony lived by.
Tony Walsh, 91, moved on to his greatest adventure on March 13, 2022 after celebrating over 33,000 adventurous days here on earth.
Tony was born August 26, 1930 to Peter Walsh and Elizabeth Ruhl. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Korean Conflict. Tony lived the Marine motto Semper Fi, always faithful, until the end. While in the Marine Corps Tony finished his schooling and received his GED while serving in Guam, a fact that he loved to share. He would later receive his diploma from St Xavier '48 and was named an Honorary Alumnus of Trinity High School holding the unique distinction of being an alumnus of both.
With just a tool belt and determination Tony began a long and illustrious career in the electrical contracting industry. He became President and CEO of United Electric Co (1970) and under his guidance it would become an industry leader. In addition to his duties with United Electric, he served as Governor and President of the Louisville Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA.) Nationally, he served as the NECA Vice President District II and was inducted into the Academy of Electrical Contracting in recognition of his exceptional and outstanding service to the electrical contracting industry. Tony was proud to be a "card carrying" member of the IBEW 369.
Tony's greatest achievement occurred on May 26,1951, when after a 7 day engagement he married Doris Fischer. Thus beginning over 70 years of love and commitment to an ever expanding family resulting in 6 children, 17 grandchildren and soon to be 8 great-grandchildren. From humble beginnings in the Projects of Louisville, Tony and Doris moved forward focused on faith and family; always facing life's challenges together.
Tony was fiercely proud of his Irish heritage so it is fitting that his Celebration of Life is to be held on St. Patrick's Day. He supported the local Irish community as a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and as a sponsor of the annual Irish Fest Celebration.
One might say Tony was generous to a fault, supporting numerous charities and causes with his time, talent and treasure. He was a proud, long-time member of the Kentucky Colonels, the American Legion, VFW, Wildwood Country Club and Epiphany Catholic Church.
Tony is preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim Walsh, sisters, Mary Jane Bickett (Walter), Betty Patterson, Cathy Dunn, brothers-in-law Don Wilder, Charles Fischer (Dee), Bob Fischer (Dottie), Henri Mangeot, Bill Cuni and sister-in-law Elsie Fischer. Tony is survived by his wife of 70 years, Doris Fischer Walsh; six children Steve (Terry), Dan (Debra), Eileen Walsh Stokes (Barry), Tom, John (Denise) and Peggy Karman (Rob); 17 grandchildren and 7 (soon to be 8) great-grandchildren, sister Martha Wilder, brothers-in-law George Fischer (Mary Lee), Pat Patterson, sisters-in-law Peggy Mangeot, Rosemary Cuni, Nancy Furlong (Jack) and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Wednesday, March 16, Ratterman's 3711 Lexington Road 3 -7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, March 17, 11 AM, Epiphany Catholic Church 914 Old Harrods Creek Road. Expression of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be shared at www.rattermans.com.

I remember Tony and Doris playing bridge with mom and dad in the group of 12 who hosted each other at the bridge nights every month. And I also remember subbing in the ladies group and how much Doris taught me about bridge. And of course Peggy babysat for my three hellions! Your dad sounds like he had a life well lived. My thoughts are with you.

Doris and family I am so sorry to hear about Tony.
I remember one time both of our families went to my Aunt Hazel's house for the weekend to camp out in her back yard and go swimming. Tony was such a great friend to my father
(Berney Cundiff). I know they are both enjoying all the blessings of heaven!
Praying for comfort and peace to you all.

Doris and family I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Tony was good and giving person. I know myself and many members of Local 369 will miss him. Tony and United Electric keep many of us employed over the years and that has supported many a family in Local 369. I appreciate the conversations I had with him and Doris at Epiphany Catholic Church after the 11:30 am liturgies. Definitely a gift to us all. Great family man.
