Rev. Dr. Joyce Ann Rife, a beacon of love and a testament to a life of service, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2023, in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Born on November 1, 1937, in Rockaway, New Jersey, Joyce's journey was one of compassion, adventure, and ceaseless devotion to her family and community. Her radiant spirit and her unwavering faith left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Joyce's early life in Rockaway set the stage for a lifetime of learning and leadership. She embraced a fulfilling career as a nurse earlier in her life, touching countless lives with her care and empathy. Her pursuit of knowledge and spiritual growth led her to Princeton Theological Seminary where she cultivated her calling to ministry and service. Wanting to advance her career she attended McCormick Theological Seminary where she earned her doctorate in ministry. Rev. Rife's extraordinary commitment to her faith was paralleled only by her dedication to others.
In her professional life, Joyce was revered not only for her spiritual guidance as a minister but also for her compassionate touch as a nurse. Her ability to blend the realms of spiritual and physical well-being made her an invaluable presence in her community, where she was involved in numerous associations and initiatives aimed at uplifting others. Her work resonated with the love and thoughtfulness that were the hallmarks of her character.
Away from her professional endeavors, Joyce found joy and solace in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid reader, reading almost one book a day. She loved to travel, taking every opportunity to explore the world. She enjoyed hiking and being in the beauty of nature. Knitting was another of her passions, through which she crafted Christmas stockings for her family and their extended family members from spouses to babies.
Rev. Dr. Joyce Ann Rife's journey on earth may have concluded, but her influence remains indelible in the hearts and minds of her family, friends, and all the lives she touched. Her story is one of a life well-lived, steeped in love, adventure, and an abiding faith that guided her every step. Her thoughtfulness was evident in every act, every word, and every silent prayer she offered for the well-being of others. She leaves behind a world enriched by her presence and a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
Joyce's legacy is lovingly carried on by her family, who were the center of her world. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David C. Rife. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Cynthia A. Henrion, and son-in-law Joseph C. Henrion; her son, Richard D. Rife and daughter-in-law Evelyn Rife; her daughter, Carolyn Joyce Barrs and son-in-law W. Jason Barrs; her grandchildren Domnick M. Doria, David M. Doria, Aussantela Vilsaint, Spencer M. Rainey, Brandon Rainey, Chad Shropshire, Cullen Shropshire, and Madison Shropshire; and her great-grandchildren Domnick F. Doria, Willow Rainey, Abigail Ducharme, and Emerson J. Doria.
Rev. Dr. Joyce Ann Rife lived a life of exemplary faith, boundless love, and tireless service. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we celebrate the remarkable tapestry of her life and her extraordinary soul. We are reminded of the profound impact one life can have on so many. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, and her memory will be a blessing to all who had the honor to walk beside her on this earthly journey.
