Keith E. Porter, Sr., a profoundly selfless man and beacon of faith, passed away on October 10th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in Greenville, SC. Born on July 22nd, 1944, in Pittsburgh, PA, Keith’s life was a testament to the power of courage, devotion, and unconditional love.
Keith is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ellen Porter, who stood by his side in unwavering support through life’s journey. He leaves behind a legacy of love and guidance in his sons, Keith Edwin Porter, Jr. and Kenneth Edward Porter, Sr. and his wife Shelley; his grandchildren, Kenneth Edward Porter II, Kayla Shaleen Porter, Kairi Alysia Porter, Karlie Shea Porter, and Emilee-Klayar Olivia Porter, brought immense joy into his life. Additionally, Keith’s great-grandchildren – Kadyn Kay Leonard, Agnew William Leonard III, Jonas Howard Leonard, Thomas Quinn Musior, Amelia Jane Ann Musior, Kiley Erin Porter, and Kenneth Edward Porter III – added sparkle to his golden years.
Keith was preceded in passing by his loving parents, Howard and Patricia Porter, his cherished son, Kevin Howard Porter, his twin brother Kenneth Edwin Porter, and his brothers Robert, Coy, and Richard Porter. The loss of these family members was felt deeply, but the strength of his faith and the love of his family provided solace and comfort.
A year of formative education at Spurgeon Baptist College helped to build the foundations of Keith's dedication to living a Christ-centered life – a prideful accomplishment and a cornerstone of his existence. Keith embarked on his professional journey as a respected owner of a janitorial company, demonstrating his exemplary work ethic as a diligent floor technician. His professional life, however, was a mere extension of the person he was: selfless and always putting others' needs before his.
Keith’s admirable life goal was to be the best Christian, husband, father, and friend he could possibly be. Those who knew him would agree that he succeeded marvelously in this aspiration. He extended his kindness beyond the bounds of his own family, opening his heart and home to boys in need, offering them a chance to become part of his family, and showing by example the power of generosity.
Beyond his family and professional life, Keith possessed a unique passion for reading comic book collections, a hobby that provided him much pleasure and leisure. It was through the colorful pages of comics that Keith would often share life's important lessons and laughter with his grandchildren.
Indeed, Keith was a man of extraordinary courage, unwavering faith, and a selflessness that touched the lives of all he met. He navigated life's challenges with dignity and emerged from each with his spirit intact, inspiring those around him to do likewise.
To encapsulate Keith's character with mere words is a formidable task for he was a person whose actions resonated more powerfully than words could ever express. He lived a life abundant in virtue, rich in love, and steadfast in conviction. Always placing others before himself, Keith E. Porter, Sr. will be deeply missed yet eternally remembered as a guidepost of all that is noble and good in the world.
The world has lost a true light with Keith’s passing, but his spirit will continue to illuminate the path for his family and friends. As Keith E. Porter, Sr. is laid to rest, we honor a man whose life was a reflection of the ideals he held most dear. His unwavering commitment to faith, family, and friendship will remain an inspiration to all whose lives he touched.
