Michael R. Harrington

Michael R. Harrington, age 56, of Waterford, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Erie on March 5, 1966, a son of David and Petrina (Bizzarro) Harrington.
Mike was a generous and caring man who spent his life and career in service of others. He had an exceptional dedication to his work, and began compassionately serving his community for several years as a volunteer for Belle Valley VFD. He later cared for patients as a CNA, then as an LPN for various nursing homes and agencies in the area. Mike was also a certified EMT/(AEMT).
Most recently he worked as an LPN at The Grove at Greenville, and also Life Force/ Emergycare (Mercer).
Mike was active in martial arts for many years, earning his black belt as a student under Master Parks- Parks Martial Arts Tae Kwon Do. Mike also enjoyed antiquing and motorcycles, especially his Harley. He grew up in a tight knit Irish/Italian family with card nights, church, and Sunday family dinners. He lived a majority of his life in a household with at least 3 generations under one roof, and the rest were just down the road. Because of this, he was an integral part of his nieces and nephews lives growing up. He helped build play houses, taught them to ride bikes without training wheels, and even how to throw a mean right hook. When he finally became a father to his own son, he was ready for the job and loved every minute of it. From countless cross country and track meets to band competitions, he always showed up. He was so proud.
Mike was a son, a brother, a father, an uncle, and a friend to all. He was the true example of a give you the shirt off his back, full heart and empty pockets kind of guy. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by a great nephew, Santino Taylor and his best friend Marc DiRaimo.
Mike is survived by his son Nick Harrington; parents, David and Petrina Harrington; siblings, Robert Bizzarro(Becky), David Fortebraccio (Lesley), Mark Fortebraccio, Debra Hoke, Michelle Bonanti (Christopher), Melanie Bachmaier (Steven). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and two great nephews.
Friends are invited to call on Friday from 2:00 to 5:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street. A service will be held there on Saturday at 10:00am with Fr. Greg Passauer.
