Patricia Anne Carrington, affectionately known as Patty, embraced life with a warmth and love that touched everyone around her. At 72, she passed away unexpectedly at her home in Chicago's Rogers Park on February 7, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness.
Born and raised in Edgewater, Patty faced life's challenges with resilience and determination from a young age. Losing her father at the tender age of eight, she was raised by her devoted single mother, Pearl Elaine Carrington. Despite the hardships, Patty's upbringing instilled a strong work ethic and unwavering love for her family.
Patty's greatest joy was being a mother to her beloved son, Ryan. She poured her heart and soul into nurturing him, balancing her long hours at work with active involvement in his life. From volunteering in the PTA to being a Den Mother for Ryan's Cub Scout troop, she was always there, cheering him on every step.
Her love extended beyond her immediate family, and she embraced her role as a grandmother with boundless affection. She took immense pride in Nathaniel and Lily, cherishing every moment spent with them and showering them with love and laughter.
Despite life's challenges, Patty remained resilient, encouraging Ryan to dream big and reach for the stars. She sacrificed her desires to ensure he had opportunities she never had, like using her tax return to fund his trip to Egypt, sparking a lifelong passion for travel.
Patty's love for adventure and her Irish heritage were evident in her zest for life. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, she journeyed to Ireland in 2018, kissing the Blarney Stone and marveling at the beauty of the Cliffs of Moher.
As she embarks on her final journey, Patty's spirit lives on in the memories of those who knew and loved her. Though she may be gone, her legacy of love, strength, and kindness will continue to inspire all fortunate enough to have known her.
Patty was the loving mother of Ryan Daniel Carrington, the dear mother-in-law of Stephen Wright, the very proud grandmother of Nathaniel Aaron Carrington and Lily Dior Carrington, the sister of Terrence (LeeAnn) Carrington of Nevada, the aunt of John Carrington, and others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl Elaine Carrington (née Pautsch) and Daniel Underwood Carrington, and her siblings, Daniel (Satsuki) Carrington and Karen (Terry) Harrell.
In honor of Patty's wishes, her family has chosen Green Cremation, with plans to scatter some of her remains in Hawaii, a place she had always dreamed of visiting.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Patty's name to Mercy Housing (https://mercyhousing.org), providing support for single mothers.
