Robert (Bob) Clayton Elliott of Davidson, North Carolina passed away on January 24, 2024. He was 95 years old and lived a joyful and active life until shortly before he passed away. He leaves behind his best friend and devoted wife of over 73 years, Jacquelyn; daughters Cheryl (Bob) Trgovich, Sue (George) Adlam and Diane (Phil) Wilson. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Elliott, Freddie and Ben Wilson, Jacqui Rivers, Denise Baker, Dan Trgovich, Joey Logano, Katie Kline, Miranda, George and Grant Adlam. In addition, Bob is survived by 14 treasured great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Joyce Elliott, and many nieces and nephews he loved dearly. Born in Angola, Indiana to Clayton Hyland Elliott and Marguerite Norris on July 4, 1928, he was predeceased by siblings Janet, Donald and John Elliott as well as grandson Bobby Logano.
Bob graduated from Purdue University in 1950, served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years and returned to Purdue receiving a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1957. Bob was a veteran of the Korean War. He served in the active Navy Reserve for an additional 25 years, retiring as a Captain. Bob's family enjoyed hearing navy stories about his experiences serving on Navy submarines and destroyers.
Before retirement in 1995, his working career was in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry, engineering and manufacturing. The previous 20 years before retirement were as President and CEO of 3 major corporations in these fields. He was a Professional Engineer and has been a member of numerous Professional Societies.
After retirement, Bob moved to the Lake Norman, NC area which he grew to love. Bob enjoyed serving as a consultant for Lancaster's Custom Dock and Lift of Lake Norman and formed a lasting friendship with owner, Mark Lancaster.
He was very involved in the community, serving as Lake Norman Marine Commissioner, a member of the Davidson Lions Club and an active member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. Bob received many awards for his community service. He served on the board of directors of Lions Services, an amazing non-profit company that employs many who are blind and sight impaired. Bob was so honored to have a building, "The Bob Elliott Center for Blind", dedicated in his name.
Bob will always be remembered as a leader, disciplined and hardworking but also a man that loved to joke and have fun. He would go to any extreme to help his family and friends.
The family would like to thank, Cynthia Harris from Visiting Angels, Bob's devoted caregiver and the staff at The Pines at Davidson for their loving care.
