Robert T. Godwin, 92, of Topeka, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. He was born on July 2, 1932, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Cecil Loyd and Clara Belle (Garinger) Godwin.
Robert graduated from Beloit High School in Beloit, Kansas. He attended Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas and later graduated from Washburn University in Topeka, KS. He played basketball at both KU and Washburn University.
Robert served in the Army from 1955 - 1957.
Dr. Godwin obtained his Optometry Doctorate in Texas. He then ran his practice in Topeka and Holton, Kansas, where his wife, Gailynn, also worked.
Robert married Gailynn C. Krey in Montezuma, Kansas on February 15, 1959. Gailynn passed away on January 2, 2009.
Survivors include his son Lloyd Thomas Godwin of Kansas City, nephews Robert Gentry (Lesley) of Beloit, KS, Rick Gentry (Kody) of Abilene, KS, and Tom Gentry (Grace) of Colorado, along with special friends Susan Anderson and Crystal Nicole Victoria, both of Topeka, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marjorie Gentry.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Parker Price & Davidson Cremations, Funerals and Receptions located at 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, Kansas. The funeral services will commence at 11:00 am, followed by interment at Rochester Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ascend Hospice or Washburn University basketball.
