Sara Green O'Neil passed away at her home surrounded by loved ones on January 1 2024 after a years long battle with metastatic breast cancer. Sara was born in Van Buren, IN, spent her early life in Marion, IN. She met her husband Bob in her 20's and together they made homes with their children in Chicago, New York State, Tampa, and California before settling in Louisville.
She dedicated her entire life to her family. Whether she was managing her household full of children, managing rental properties with her husband, managing her own mother's prolonged illness, or finally, helping her kids manage their own kids. She did it all with a grace and kindness few could match.
Throughout her life Sara made artwork, from charcoals and collage to stained glass and crafting. She loved spending time with her friends in the Garden club, Wine group, and Widows group. She was a volunteer at La Casita and Friend for Life. Her greatest joys in life were her beloved grandchildren Caroline, Jack, and Collins.
A legendary beauty, Sara was a fierce fighter with a smile that would often disguise her 13 year Cancer battle. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at CBC group who became like family on this journey, especially Dr Mike Kommor.
She is predeceased by her husband Robert J. O'Neil, her parents Edward Green and Isabelle Green, and her brother Richard Green.
She is survived by her children Tara Jane O'Neil (Jmy), Shana Cassady (Hunter), Jay O'Neil, her grandchildren Caroline, Jack, and Collins, her brother Larry Green, and a large extended family.
Visitation will be held Saturday January 6 from 12-2 at Pearson Funeral Home at 149 Breckenridge Ln, Louisville, KY 40207. A service at Pearson will directly follow visitation.
Arrangements under the direction of Pearson's, "Where Louisville Goes To Remember".

Sara was a beautiful friend and a wonderful mother to lovely Tara Jane. I am so sorry I did not know until now of her death. I loved laughing and talking with her, and we treasure a piece of glass she made for me when Tara was a student in my English class. Tara, I would love to see you and share memories. Please get in touch if you would like to meet up and catch up. Sandi Bryant

How could anyone not love Sara? She was delightful and beautiful, but she truly won my heart when she came to volunteer in the Friend for Life Cancer Support Network office and demonstrated her unique talent of steaming uncanceled stamps off of envelopes using the microwave. She supported many women with breast cancer through Friend for Life. Sara will forever be one of my favorite human beings. Heartfelt condolences to her family and all who loved her.

Sara possessed the rare gifts of always having something kind to say, taking life in stride, and keeping a smile on her face, no matter how she was feeling. I always enjoyed talking with her when we were together. She will be deeply missed.
