Steig Arne Valentin Osberg, 87, passed away Tuesday, February 28 at his home in West Jordan, Utah. Steig was born on July 1, 1935, to Frans (Oscar) and Hildur Osberg in Härnösand Sweden. Steig and his older brother Bengt were very close growing up despite him being six years older. Practical jokes were a regular part of their lives.

In the early 1940s, Steig moved with his family to Stockholm where he was admitted to Riksby School. He was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in May of 1943. The following year, Steig got his first job as a delivery boy at only 9 years old.

In the late 1940s, Hildur and Oscar made the decision to emigrate to America. On February 4, 1949, Steig with his family stepped on board MS Gripsholm to make the 12-day trip to America. After a brief stop in Halifax, Nova Scotia Steig arrived in New York City on February 16, 1949. Eventually, he and his family moved to the avenues in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Steig met his first wife, Evelyn Moss, in the early 1950s. On May 20, 1954, they were married in the Salt Lake City Temple. They went on to have three beautiful children: Brian, Linda, and Richard (Richie). He joined the Airforce in December of 1955, where he was stationed in Japan.

After completing his military service, he answered a blind ad for a male secretary at Swift, a local meatpacking company. Steig married Peggy after his divorce from Evelyn and moved to Denver for a job in meat sales and purchasing. They lived there for less than a year.

He then moved to Los Angeles for another opportunity in the meatpacking industry. It was there he met his long-time business partner, Marty Evanson. In March 1979, the two of them along with Martin Schwartz, founded Jobbers Meat Packing Company Inc. This became his true passion, and he was met with tremendous success for the next forty years.

Steig married Darlene Wilson/Richtman in November 1979. They lived in Covina, California for nearly 30 years but ultimately parted ways in the year 2000. Sometime later Steig married Sandy Rosales and settled into a new home in Sun City, California

Steig’s true passion in life was his work. He reluctantly retired in June 2020 due to medical issues. In 2022, he moved back to Utah where he lived with his daughter Linda in West Jordan for the last 10 months of his life. He was grateful to be back home with his family and he often remarked on how blessed he was.

Steig is survived by his three children: Brian, Linda (Dave), and Richie (Liz), 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother.

Services for Steig will be held at Leavitt’s Mortuary in Ogden on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
