Larry Jehle Obituary

Larry Albert Jehle, Jr, "Saints Fett" passed away Tuesday, February 18th at the age of 30. Larry was preceded in death by his grandparents Leah C. Quinlan, Thomas H. Quinlan Jr. and Georgie Jehle and Leonard A. Jehle, Larry will be greatly missed by his mother Leah Q. Jehle and father Larry A. Jehle, Sr. Brother of Holly J. Matherne (Barry Jr.), Chere J. Olivier (Christopher) and Lindy J. Giambrone (Nicholas), nephews and nieces Tyler Matherne, Christopher and Carly Olivier, Connor Giambrone, 2 nieces due in June and his only godchild, Peyton Matherne. Larry was cared for by his loving mother as well as his sisters for the last years of his life. He was a fighter, defeating leukemia at the age of 6. Larry was generous, thoughtful and considerate of everyone. He never complained about his health issues or let them slow him down. Larry graduated from Grace King High School where he was a proud member of the football team and JROTC. He was a dedicated employee of Ochsner Medical Center, Kenner campus and Dominos Pizza. Larry's strongest passion was his love and dedication for the New Orleans Saints. From that love he created the popular character called "Saints Fett". Saints Fett was a fixture in Champions Square for every home game. His love of the team and fans helped him through his health issues. Larry was also a proud member of the Bast Alpha Garrison of the 501st Legion. He marched with the 501st in many parades during Mardi Gras, and participated in numerous charity events especially at Children's Hospital throughout his years with the 501st. Larry also enjoyed attending numerous ComicCon Conventions as several characters and befriended numerous celebrities. Larry was a wonderful Son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He was surrounded by close family and friends in his last hours. The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff of Ochsner Kenner and Ochsner main campus CCU and ICU for all their care, and especially to his friends Gary Breaux and Caesar Taylor for their love and support in his final hours. Family, friends and employees of Ochsner Foundation and the Who Dat Nation are invited to attend a Black and Gold visitation at 10am, Saturday, February 22nd at Leitz-Eagan, 4747 Veterans Blvd, Metairie, La, 70006. Mass to begin at 6pm, private internment. In honor of Saints Fett Larry's wish was for everyone to wear their black and gold Saints attire. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Larry's name to the Make a Wish Foundation or Children's Hospital of New Orleans. Online guest registry available at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com.

I am not sorry this message is a bit long, because Larry is so much more than a few words. As I stepped out of my door,I heard deep breathing and felt a presence behind me. I met Larry Jehle at work in 2010. Now as I slowly turned around, I was face to face (with what I didn't even know then) was a looming Fett. I grabbed my throat and heard Larry's gentle laugh. "You dog!!" I yelped, which only made him laugh harder. That next year, I walked out of the office to find a full regalia, authentic WWII medic. Being a WWII museum supporter, I was more than impressed with the detail Larry had invested in his portrayal of a time gone by. Larry has always been one of the hardest workers I have ever met. Being his employee health nurse, I often worked with Larry on protecting his health while at work. In those discussions, I was always impressed by his determined work ethic and heroic independence. I was often embarrassed by his ability to recall every detail of his care, work:life balance, and his unrelenting life goals. I often witnessed Larry courageously take care of his transport assignments, as a patient advocate . He even stayed late one day to help us gather a mother duck and her babies, so we could relocate them to Honey Island( from outside my office!). My last memory of Larry is that he spotted a Wonder Woman cup in my office. He was determined to get that mug to the next conference, so that he cold get Linda Carter (TV's Wonder Woman) to sign it.
I charged Larry with taking care of himself and doing absolutely every single thing he wanted to do at that conference. I asked him to not worry too much about the list of wishes he was fulfilling for others. But then.... that wouldn't have been Larry. To his family and friends, my condolences and wishes for peace. To Larry, tell Superman and all the other superheroes to move over. Larry has arrived.

To Holly and family, I am so sorry about Larry. He was a tough little boy, and an even tougher man made stronger by all of your love and support as a family. No doubt he will be looking down today smiling at a sea of crazy Who Dats in black and gold coming to celebrate his life. Many prayers and love for your family...
