Leota Helen McBride, age 83, of rural Gilson, Illinois passed away at 10:20 A.M. on Saturday, May, 14, 2016 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Peoria, Illinois.

Leota was born on October 13, 1932 on the family farm in Alpha, Illinois, the daughter of LaVern and Elizabeth Yarrington Plunkett. Leota graduated from the Alwood High School and then furthered her education in Macomb, Illinois at Western Illinois University, where she received her Master's Degree in Education. She married David McBride on December 27, 1960 in Alpha, Illinois.

Leota dedicated 30 years of her life as a teacher, first for Dixon Public Schools and later for the Galesburg School District. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. Leota was also a member of the Maquon United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, David McBride of Gilson, Illinois, 2 sons, Doug (and Becky) McBride of Knoxville, Illinois, Dr. Steven (and Donna) McBride of Summerville, South Carolina, 2 grandchildren, Nolan and Darby McBride, 2 step-grandchildren, Ty and Adam Trotter, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, LaVern and Elizabeth Plunkett, and 4 brothers, Dudly, Douglas, Max, and Larry Plunkett.

As per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and there will be no services. Memorial contributions can be made to the Maquon United Methodist Church or to the American Diabetes Association. The Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois is assisting the family. Online condolences can be left at www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com.
