A friendship spawned by your Tanner and our Morgan on and about the fields of Duke University quickly spread to their parents -- Luanne & Matt, Karen & Jeff -- and then to the siblings -- Ben, Carson & Liz and Walker, Jane & Sam -- such that we are all friends in our own right now. Family, the supreme priority to Matt, has been at the core of these friendships. We send our love, and we celebrate Matt's life and passion. It was a beautiful and fitting service and repast yesterday.

I had the honor of being Matt's assistant for the past 7 years at Global Indemnity Group. A more honest, hard-working, fair, humble, intelligent boss just can't be found. No one could escape his magnetic personality. He believed that anything could be accomplished through hard work and any problems solved by remaining optimistic and confident. Don't get me wrong, he expected a lot from his reports, he expected hard work, but somehow, you always wanted to do it because he was Matt.

His family meant everything to him. He would always try his hardest to find a way to accommodate his sons' and daughter's sporting events, no matter where he was traveling. If you could see his calendar, all of this year's events are on it, have been for a few weeks. He was excited to start planning for them. I loved to ask him how his kids were doing in their sports, his face would immediately light up with pride.

During the years I have assisted Matt, I can honestly say that they have been the best and most interesting years of my career. I look back with great fondness to the years spent assisting him. I hope that anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Matt will find a way to carry on his optimistic and fun nature in their lives.

My prayers and condolences go out to LuAnne and the whole Scott family. He loved you more than anything.

Luanne and Family,
We all thought very highly of Matt. His enthusiasm in everything he did was contagious. Although we saw him most at Baseball and Softball events at Field of Dreams, we knew his interest went far beyond that. Personally, I felt his positive outlook, especially when he was coaching children, provided his players, and players around him, with encouragement enough that every child thought they could be a success. He will be sorely missed by the community. With best wishes, Tom and Anne Toscani (BPALL Folks). (PS. I especially remember his positive attitude as the "Chips" Manager in Mimi T-Ball - He was special guy!!!)

To the Entire Scott Family, Whatever comfort there could be I pray it would blanket you. I met Matt almost 50 years ago at Parkes Run where every Scott kids' friend gathered. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, Matt gave a cheerful welcome to all who came to play or hang out. I bumped into him and Joan last year and his and her warm hug brought us back to old times. He was wonderful, the same smiling, cheerful, warm Matt.
His mark was made and touched so many of us in so many ways. The only consoling thought I can think is that Mrs. Scott was there to meet him in heaven.
God bless you all, Joe Nort Norton
