Melinda Rios Obituary

Published by Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Easton on Nov. 5, 2020.
STOUGHTON----Melinda C. Rios passed away peacefully on November 5, 2020 after a long and bravely fought battle with systemic sclerosis. She was 47 years old. Melinda was born on October 30, 1973 in the Bronx, NY to Miriam Martinez and Cesar Rios. She graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. In 2010 she received a B.A in Architecture from Wellesley College, where she was a Davis Scholar. At Wellesley Melinda excelled academically, earning the respect of her professors, mentors, and classmates. She was a cheerful and welcoming advisor to other Davis Scholars, sharing her experiences with managing coursework, and achieving a sustainable work-life balance. Melinda felt that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to, with the help of a supportive community. She embodied that sentiment. After graduation Melinda worked in the Development Office at Wellesley. She then became Administrative Assistant for Advancement at Stonehill College, where, despite serious health issues, she was enrolled in a Master's Degree program in Integrated Marketing Communication. In 2018, she won the Ethics Essay contest sponsored by The Public Relations Society of America. Melinda faced every challenge with courage and optimism. With her partner Paul and their daughter Victoria, she enjoyed an active and engaged family life, traveling to Disneyworld and other destinations, attending Broadway plays and local theater offerings (often starring her daughter). When she required a medicine-dispensing intravenous port, she bundled the exterior part of the device into a small fashionable handbag and soldiered on. She was an inspiration and a bright example of faith, perseverance, and love. Melinda leaves her partner Paul, their daughter Victoria, her parents, her brother Cesar Rios, her nephew Brandon Rios, her extended family, and a large network of friends. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours requiring mask & social distancing on Thursday, November 12,2020 from 5- 8 p.m., at Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 605 Washington Street (Rte.138), Easton. A funeral Mass requiring mask & social distancing will be held on Friday November 13, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Mary, Stonehill College, Easton.

I am so sad to hear that Melinda has passed. She was such a wonderful person and a dear friend at Wellesley, where we were Davis Scholars together. We took a landscape and garden architecture course together and I was so impressed with her notebook and how she took notes, in drawings as well as words, and with how she so thoroughly enjoyed learning and life. I saw, when she brought her daughter Victoria to events at the college, how proud she was of her and how much she loved her. I know how much she will be missed by her family and all who knew her. I am grateful to have known Melinda as a friend and Wellesley sister.

My deepest sympathy. Melinda was a wonderful person. We met through our girls at the Jones school. Melinda was so encouraging and supportive. She always had positive encouragement. What a beautiful person inside & out. I will miss her bright beautiful smile.

My deepest sympathy to both Paul and Victoria having to bid goodbye to such a wonderful person. Melinda was a cheerful, thoughtful, and incredibly bright person. I remember when she showed me her little bag containing her medical device one day as we were laughing together and eating tacos. I saw that cute, cheerful looking bag and thought, "how imaginative!" Melinda took every opportunity to make the most of everything and I always admired her for it. She will be dearly missed.

I had the great pleasure to meet Melinda in person only once, but came away from that meeting so very impressed by her. I came to know her even better through conversations Paul and I had when we were able to meet up together. I am so very sorry that she was chosen to leave this life at such a young age, but I know that Melinda will be looking down on Paul and Victoria smiling and guiding them through the future until she is able to meet up with them again. I am so deeply sorry Paul and Victoria that you have to experience this loss. My thoughts and prayers are with Melinda, Paul, Victoria and the rest of the family. I hope that all find peace from the memories of Melinda that you hold close to your heart.

As a friend and co-worker to Paul, my deepest most sincere condolences go out to you and Victoria. I always noticed the way you beamed with love and pride whenever Melinda came up in conversation. I, too, feel like you now have an angel as your guide in Melinda. May peace be with you. Sending love and light.

Although I only met Melinda a time or two, I felt like I knew her through Paul, my co-worker and friend. In the brief time I spent with Melinda, I knew she had a kind heart, was strong and driven, and had a great sense of humor. My heart breaks for your family as we can never explain the loss of such a wonderful person at a young age, but have faith that she is watching over you and will always be the angel on your shoulder, Victoria. We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers during this challenging time.

Melinda was one of the kindest and most loving person I know. She had a heart of gold and a smile that would brighten up any room she walked into. Her laughter was so sweet. She was the most devoted and proud mother any child could have. She invited me to come to several of Victoria's performances at the Starline Theater and I'm glad I went.
Melinda was the Wellesley Fund Representative for the Continuing Education/Davis Scholar Alumnae Class. Over the years, Melinda has dedicated much of her time to assist us. As a nurturer, Melinda was most caring when we most needed it. She always saw the good in everyone. She will be missed by so many of the people whose hearts she touched.
May she rest in eternal peace.
Much love to Paul and Victoria, you will be in my thoughts.
