Born Ray Jacobs, August 08 began making music with his cousins as a child. His songwriting caught the attention of major labels, and his songwriting credit on the Billboard topping “I’m the One” with DJ Khaled led to his first record deal. He signed with 88rising and began releasing music, debuting with the 2018 album “Father,” which included the single “Funeral.”
August 08 followed “Father” with two other studio albums, 2020âs “Emotional CUH” and 2022âs “Seasick.” His music incorporated influences from indie rock and electronica. He also continued writing for other artists, including a songwriting credit on Waleâs “Fashion Week.” In addition to recording for 88rising, August 08 was also connected with Def Jam Recordings. Most recently, he released the single “Bruises” in June 2023.
