Robert Benson Obituary
May 12, 1937 - January 20, 2021
Charlotte, North Carolina - On Wednesday, January 20, 2021, Robert "Bob" Benson - loving husband, father and grandfather - passed away after complications from a fall. He passed peacefully with his wife and son by his side.
Born in 1937 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, Bob received his bachelor's degree at Clemson University. He started his company, PNUCOR, soon thereafter and ran it for 39 years. Bob was married to Marjory Benson for 61 years and they had one son, Michael Benson.
Bob had a passion for sports. He went to Clemson on a basketball scholarship and enjoyed playing golf and tennis. Bob was the owner of the American Soccer League (ASL) team Carolina Lightnin', which won the league championship in 1981. He also owned the World Team Tennis team Charlotte Heat. Bob was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marjory Benson; son, Michael Benson and his wife Angela; and three grandsons: Joe, John and Mark.
Due to the pandemic, a private ceremony will be held for his immediate family. Once it's safe to gather, a celebration of Bob's life will be held.

Hello, Marge, Henry and I lived in the duplex owned by Doug and Sue Talley at the corner of Randolph Rd. and Wonderwood Dr. You and Bob lived one street over, on the corner of Randolph and Hunter Lane. I was so sad to read about Bob in Sunday's Observer. I remember the times you, Sue, and I were together -- very sweet memories. Around 1969-1971. Henry and I send you our deepest condolences.

Dear Marj and Mike,
May God hold and keep you today and always. My heart is with you. Simply put, Bob is THE reason I have a college education. Had it not been for Bob’s caring, tutelage, guidance, and FRIENDSHIP I would have lived my life “just settling for.” God blessed me by putting me in Robert D. Benson’s path.
