Austin Builta Obituary

Austin Campbell "Catfish" Builta slipped into the shining world May 18, 1999, in Fort Worth and once mastering elocution and locomotion, he began making the planet a better place by his mere presence, wholesome and tender and joyful, until Thursday, June 11, 2015. Service: Mass of Christian Farewell at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 5819 W Pleasant Ridge Road, Arlington. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 15, with a vigil at 7 p.m. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Austin Builta Memorial Scholarship Fund at The Oakridge School, 5900 W. Pioneer Pkwy., Arlington, Texas 76013. Quite quickly Austin became a servant of the Lord, not just by word but by his every deed, particularly after his sister/partner-in-crime, Anna, was born in 2003, giving him a target on which to shower his constant flow of love. The joys of Austin's life, aside from being with his sister, were running cross country, listening to Midwest rap, playing the guitar, working with power tools in the garage, relaxing via video games, serving the elderly, and teaching Sunday school to young children. He was a ferocious volunteer, a gifted mower of lawns, a solid storyteller, and a keen observer of life. Austin served without boasting, he loved without self-interest, and he lived from the pureness God placed in his heart. As Robert Frost says, "Nothing gold can stay," so Austin is now back in heaven, the place from whence he came. Austin is survived by his parents, Sarah Kramer and Brian Builta; his sister, Anna; his pet turtle, Tina; his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Mary Ellen Kramer; his paternal grandmother, Joyce Builta; his aunts and uncles, Michael and Kelly Kramer, Daron Builta and Steve Schaible, Missy Kramer, Chris and Megan Poulin; his cousins, Molly and Davis; his extended family; and his family at The Oakridge School.

May 26, 2022

I never met Austin, but the more I get to learn about him and experience friendship with his parents, and watch the students whose lives are being touched by the Austin Builta Memorial Scholarship, the more I wish that I had known their young prince. May Austin enjoy eternal rest, and may Brian, Sarah, and Anna experience the kind of peace that only the Lord can provide.

I've never forgotten how kind and humble Austin was from our days at St.Vincents. My most fond memories from my time spent at St.Vincent has Austin in them too, even when we fell into a freezing lake together, multiple times. We may not have been as close as I wish we were, but I don't think you need to be to appreciate what an amazing person Austin was. Forever in my memories and thoughts, I'll be missing you.

March 24, 2019

I still think about Austin. He continues to be a part of who I am and always will be. I can honestly say my life is better because of having him in it. Just know that he is never forgotten.

It's impossible to find words. In this life, nothing hurts more than losing your own flesh and blood. You have now begun the journey to survive the worst that life has to offer.

I hope your faith will bring you comfort. I cannot imagine the sorrow you are feeling. Nothing your friends can offer will change that. But please know that we are here for you and if there is anything I can do to make your life a tiny bit less horrible, you have only to ask.

I'm sorry for your pain and your loss. ♥

Dear Brian and Sarah,
It was with great shock and sadness that I read your son's obituary in the Star-Telegram. I did not want to believe that my former Tarrant Area Food Bank colleague and his wife had lost their only son, but I had only to read the first paragraph to know that Brain had written it. My hope for you both is that your memories of Austin will bring you comfort in the months and years to come.

Mrs. Kramer and the rest of the Builta family and our Oakridge family,
While I did not personally know Austin, I am deeply saddened by his loss. After reading things people have shared about him there is no doubt in my mind that he made an incredible impact on every person he met, and if he was anything like his mother, I know he did.
I have no doubt that the Oakridge Class of 2017 will be able to carry on his legacy of caring deeply for others.
To the family, please know that your ENTIRE Oakridge family is praying for you, as well as Austin, as he makes his amazing journey into Heaven. We are here whenever you need us.
Rest in Peace, Austin. Heaven just became an even better place.
