Dear Braz my good man, now ten weeks have we span. Since your arrival and words of survival to the Winona educaring clan. I appreciate your concern for motivating we the learned. However, I must admit, there's only one thing I regret. That only some were able to come. Now were you to appear at a workshop next year, we will undo the undone, sing the unsung and reverse the unwon. I've heard, of course, that story of "beating a dead horse", but to this situation it does not apply! You see Braz, people enjoy your views, cues and razzmatazz! And "bring him back" has been the cry!

Braz was a wonderful friend, colleague, and mentor. He taught me to listen the children and to always put them first. Consider their needs and truly get to know them. The are our teachers. I just found out about his loss and I am truly saddened that the world has lost such a beautiful person. He will always be a part of me and a part of my life.

I just found out that Mr. Brazelton died about a week ago. He was my physical education teacher at Bryan Elementary School. He was a great teacher, a great role model and a great person. I will never forget the activities he involed his students in such as the tumbling and drill teams. I had hoped to see him again but since I won't in this life please accept my sincere condolences and may God bless his family. He will never be gorgotten by me.

I met Mr. Brazelton only once when he did a presentation for the Head Start program teachers and staff. It was around 1979 or 80. To say the man made an impression on my life is putting it mildly. I truly enjoyed and was permanently impacted by his enthusiasm. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Mr. Brazelton was one of my favorite teachers back at
Crosby School. He was very special in many ways. I had him around 1954. He is the only person I ever got a paddling from. Today I am a Great-grandmother, wife, nurse and retired. May God bless the family. Carol Price Ray.

Mrs. Brazelton, Carl & Leslie & Family, We are saddened to hear of Mr. Brazelton's passing. Growing up in Wesley Temple would have been impossible without his love for the youth there. He took me & my brothers to VBS Memorial Camp in Columbus (church camp), and it was awesome. My family have very fond memories of you all. We will keep you in our prayers. Love to you all!

My condolences to Mr. Brazelton's family and friends. I met Mr. Brazelton on a few occasions way back in 1966 and 1967 at Bryan School. I was a football player at North High School, and we had a small group from the high school going around to visit the various schools in North Akron. Our mission was to impress upon the children to enjoy themselves over the summer and to be on the watch for vandals breaking windows in their schools. Mr. Brazelton met with me briefly on all of my visits, and he made all of us feel very welcome and appreciated. I knew 44 years ago that he was a man who genuinely cared very much about his students. He was a man of great character and a very special human being. May he rest in peace.

Back in 1970 my soon-to-be-husband and I were students at Ohio University. We decided we wanted to go to an OU-Miami football game but neither of us owned a car. (Few students did back then!) We ended up "thumbing a ride" from Athens down to Miami...something I wouldn't even remotely consider doing today!! It took 3 drivers on the road to get us there and lucky for us, one of them was Ambrose Brazelton. While we never saw him face-to-face again, I never ever forgot that name. He asked for an address and after that he sent us volumes of letters and poems, which we enjoyed immensely. (I was an English major at OU, so all that poetry really enlightened my soul). A year later, my 'boyfriend' and I married. We had 4 beautiful children who are now all happily married themselves. I am expecting my 9th grandchild any day now. Unfortunately, the love of my life, divorced me for another womam in 2001. I immediately moved to Columbus and saw the obituary for Ambrose earlier this week. I have never ever forgotten the fun we had that day in 1970, thumbing a ride to Oxford and ending up in his car. What a delightful man he was and I am sure he will be so missed by SO many! God Bless. A call from Finley informed me, that his ‘Uncle Ambrose’ had pasted away. Almost instantly I remembered helping build Soap Box Derby cars in my neighbor’s garage, going tobogganing at Goodyear Metropolitan Park, and being saved after Carl defended Stewart and Mr. Brazelton defended me. Later, I asked my wife had she heard of Ambrose Brazelton. She said, “Oh yes he would carry me on his shoulders during the long community jogs we took in his gym class. I felt on top of the world, he was my hero.” I replied, “Yea mine too!”
My sincere sympathy to the family,

Mr.Brazelton was a great life force. As young kid at Bryan School, he taught us you could be what ever you wanted to be. Also he taught us there was little excuse for not being fit physically and mentally. The “Head Stand Rhapsody” was a great example of his genius of challenging both body and mind. But to sum it all up he was a great teacher and a blessing to all his students.

To the Brazelton and Ridgill families.

My deepest sympathy is with the family as you prepare for the homegoing of a gentleman I considered my mentor, teacher, and father. I credit him with my succes nad keeping me on the straight and narrow. I valued his sternness and caring nature for me and all the North Akron (Bryan School) rugrats.

Thank you Mr Bazelton for allowing me to share your friendship and walk the path with you.

God Bless the entire family.

In the community of Teakwood Heights, the absence of Mr. Brazelton will leave a big void! He was not only the Vice President of our Civic Association he was the community’s number one advocate. He advocated for the youth, the seniors, the families, and all else who was about the good of Teakwood Heights. “Mr. Brazelton,” as he was fondly called throughout the neighborhood, will be dearly missed by his Teakwood neighbors. To The Entire Brazelton Family: It was a very sad day to pick up the BJ and find that our legend was gone. I cannot begin to understand your loss. I only know that Mr. Brazelton was so much more than a teacher in my life. He was the man I have most admired in my life. He was my coach, drill team director, instructor, father and hero. I have carried him with me since 1963.
I had the privilege of seeing him honored by his peers at Akron U in 1981. Ican truly tell you that they did not say enough. He was so much more than ALL OF THAT! May God keep and comfort you all during your time of grief and please accept my heartfelt sympathies.

My Heart and prayers go out to Braz' family. I feel honored to have had the pleasure of meeting & knowing Braz through Camp Ceasar. I feel like our profession took a big loss through his passing, however, we are all better people for having him in our lives and we all need to carry his vision of "keeping children first!"

June 30, 2010

When I was a student at Kent State University the instructors used Mr. Brazelton as an example of what a teacher should be. We heard his name over and over in our classes. His programs, his innovations as well as the wonderful man that he was became a part of our education. We all came to admire him. My condolences to the family.

It is with fond memories that I have of Mr. Brazelton and Bryan School. he was certainly ahead of his time in teaching. He could reach nearly everyone with his ways and methods. No candy or gum was allowed unless you had enough for the whole class. He loved the world series and we did too if you were in his room. God has certainly found a good and faithful angel for His heaven. Bless this family dear Lord as they go forward without their love one.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

To The Brazelton Family....
Mr. Brazelton was one of a kind. He taught us at Bryan Elementary School to hold your head up high and be responsible for your actions. The physical endurance and techniques he taught us was amazing. He was a mentor and a father away from home. His advise has helped me to be a better person, husband and father to this day. I'm grateful for the opportunity to have known him. He will always be an inspiration to me. We'll miss him.

To the Brazelton Family:
I had the pleasure of hearing "Braz" speak at WV Wesleyan College in 1972. He shared a vision of physical education and children that was well ahead of the world of "Dodgeball" and "Duck Duck Goose" that somehow continue,in some parts of the country, despite his never-ending efforts to speak of their demise. I am honored to have known him for the past 38 years and I will continue,on his behalf, to spread the Gospel of "What's Right for Children," according to "Braz"
God Bless your family during this time of sorrow but know that he did not die in vain and was loved by many across this country and beyond, for doing the "right thing" In his own words, "You are beautiful". We all felt beautiful when Braz spoke to us. Thank you for sharing him with the world. Camp Caesar
will always remember "Braz"
Most Sincerely,

He was a man that touched many people's lives. He was an educator, a mentor, and a friend!!! Coming to Camp Caesar just hasn't been the same without him, but we know that Braz would want us to "carry on". I feel honored to have met him, and will continue to "keep children first!".

To the Brazelton Family,

The years I spent teaching at Bryan School were some of the most rewarding of my life. So much of that reward was generated through my association with the students and my fellow teachers. Braz was one of the teachers. God did not make a better, more compassionate person interested in the welfare of his students than Ambrose Brazelton. This is revealed in his book, “I May Be Little on the Outside, But I Am Big On the Inside.” Braz was big on the inside and on the outside. He will never be forgotten.

I met Braz at a national AAHPER convention in Houston while working my way through KSU. He and his friends inspired me to focus on the elementary level PE. For years he kept me under his wing and shared his unique and unrelenting love of children with me and many MANY future educators. I treasure the memory of his rescuing me at the AAHPERD in MN along with the rest of the Ohio crazies. He touched me and will always be my valued friend and mentor. There have never been any Fat Freddie's in my classes or life. Thanks for sharing your life and insights with me. MRSA

Wow Mr. Brazelton! Yes he did touch many young people for more than one decade. I went to Findley School, and I can remember him because he was afro-american and he just stood out! He was ahead of his time and caught up with it from the future generations he touched. I had the pleasure of running into him in Columbus, Ohio and he gave me a copy of his book and autographed it for me. He won't be forgotten, he'll live on in the many lives he touched. Mr. Brazelton, taught and gave respect along with many other character building qualities. RIP Mr. Brazelton!!
