My condolences to the Doten family on Jim's passing. Jim was such a nice man! I met the Doten family over 40 years ago. I was in the same class as Linda and was a very close friend of Kathy and Sue's. Jim and Bev were the best parents! It was always fun to visit at their house in Buckingham. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

Mr. Jim Doten's Pontiac Dealership at 45th and Broadway, Oakland, Ca, and also on Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley, Ca, as I recall, were the places to stop by to ask questions and to chat; I purchased two cars from the Doten Dealership and had I known Mr. Doten was also a canine owner, I would have spent more time there asking questions about our dogs-- my German Shepherds; my Pooldles , and my Grandpa's Chihuahas;. the Doten car salesman, Mr. Larry Kamian, was always available to talk to customers, and as I recall, Mr. Doten was very, very pleasant to customers too! I have been looking for Larry Kamian since last week regarding suggestions for an automobile to purchase for myself and my current Service Dog, Molly, when the Reference Librarian told me that Mr. Doten has recently passed away. My deepest condolences and prayers are with you at this special time of the loss of your loved one.

Respectfully,

I never got a chance to meet Jim Doten although I did grow up in the car business and worked here in the area most of my life.
I know Jim was a good man and I know many good people that will miss him.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Being "Car Crazy" from the earliest age, the passion grew into my adult life. I leased several of my vehicles from Doten Pontiac in Oakland, and it wasn't unusual to find me "hanging out" on any given day. And Mr Doten was someone I looked up to and admired and maybe even envied (in a good way). I made so many friend at the dealership in the 70's. I've often wondered where they were today. I just came across Hank Hobsons business card. So my prayers and thoughts are with all the Family and friends. I remember a Ann Doten?

The first time I met James was when he hosted a pre-ball party for his granddaughter Stephanie. He was smiling and friendly. You could see he was special from the first time I met him. He could always remember you and was caring. He will be missed.
