David Pinsky Obituary
David Pinsky, of Farmington, formerly of West Hartford died Tuesday, (November 11, 2003). Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Isidore and Minnie (Singer) Pinsky. He was a graduate of Hartford Public High School and played varsity football for HPHS in 1930 and 1931. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1936, with a degree in mathematics, where he continued the family tradition playing football there. He was one of four Pinsky brothers who played varsity football at UConn from 1932 to 1950. He received his master's degree in actuarial science from the University of Iowa in 1937. Mr. Pinsky wrote more than 250 articles on the Connecticut economy for national publications and had issued thousands of reports for the State. He was a former chairman of the Connecticut Cost of Living Commission. He also served as Director of Research of the Connecticut State Labor Department since 1938. In 1965 he joined the staff of the University of Connecticut serving as Professor of Labor Education. He lectured for a number of years in economics, statistics and mathematics for the University of Connecticut, the University of Hartford, and Central Connecticut State University. He was a former chairman of the Connecticut Economic Survey Committee, the National Committee to Study Economic Indicators, and the International Association of Workmen's Compensation Commissions. He was a former past president of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Statistical Association and had been a consultant to the Maxcy Committee and several other State and Federal Committees and Boards. He also was chairman of the Committee to Study Needs of Family Physicians in Connecticut and a member of the Human Resources Development Committee of the Connecticut Chamber of Commerce. He served as a Boy Scout Leader from 1950 to 1957 and was an umpire in the West Hartford Little League. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the West Hartford Alumni Baseball League and served on the West Hartford Citizens for Education Research Committee from 1955 to 1957. In his spare time, he played bridge in tournaments, skied and played golf. He leaves his wife, Charlotte (Abrams) Pinsky; two sons, Paul D. Pinsky and his wife, Joanne of Palo Alto, CA, and James B. Pinsky and his wife, Sigrid of Palo Alto, CA; two daughters, Pamela E. Pinsky of Watertown, MA and Charlotte L. "Cherie" Pinsky of San Francisco, CA; six grandchildren, Anne Christner and her husband, Richard, Catherine Rohloff and her husband, Thomas, Jane Pinsky, Stina Pinsky, David Pinsky and Fraser Pinsky; and two great-grandsons; two brothers, Albert Pinsky and his wife, Rheta of Yardley, PA, and Leo Pinsky and his wife, Lorraine of West Hartford; and sisters-in-law, Florence Pinsky of Bloomfield, Jane Borkowski and husband, Edward of Wallingford, and Margery Wagner of Groton. He was predeceased by a brother, Jules Pinsky. Funeral services will be private. A memorial service will be scheduled for early December 2003.
