Wes Littrell Obituary

ATHENS - A celebration of life for Wesley Brian Littrell will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 25 in the Wynne Chapel at Austin College. Pastor Steve Cook of the Oak Park United Methodist Church in Paris will officiate with Joseph Wetzel, Chad Wetzel, Nick Book, Robert Littrell, Marcus Wetzel, and Paul Wetzel serving as pallbearers. Mr. Littrell, 32, was doing what he loved to do when he passed away Friday, May 21 from injuries received in an accident at work.
Wes was born Oct. 31, 1977 in Sherman to Mike and Lynne (Wetzel) Littrell. After graduating from Tom Bean High School in 1996, Wes earned a bachelor of science in forest and wildlife management from Stephen F. Austin State University. On May 3, 2003, he and Lynne Bender were married near Tom Bean in the former Cedar Methodist Church. An avid fisherman and outdoor enthusiast, Wes was employed by Texas Parks and Wildlife as a wildlife biologist at the Gus Engeling Wildlife Management Area, and was an active member of numerous wildlife conservation organizations. Wes was a member of the First UMC in Athens where he played guitar for the church's Praise Team. Always the "family man," Wes will be remembered for his unconditional agape love of his family and his dedication and love for the Lord.
Wes Littrell is survived by his wife Lynne who is expecting their first child in November; parents, Mike and Lynne Littrell of Tom Bean; brother, Brad Littrell and wife Jenny of Hutto; niece, Madilyn Littrell; grandfather, Oscar Wetzel of Tom Bean; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gary and Malinda Bender of Cresco, Pa.; brother-in-law, Randy Bender and wife Gwen of Mountainhome, Pa.; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 -8 p.m. Monday. May 24 at the First UMC of Tom Bean. The online register book can be signed at waldofuneralhome.com. I went to school with Wes. My name is Ami Narramore. When I opened the paper and saw his name in the obits I couldnt believe what I was seeing! It has been a long time since I have thought about Wes, but I remember him very well. He was a very smart guy, with a great sence of humor. I knew where ever he went in life, he would go far. I cant believe he was only here for 32 yrs., seems so unfair. To his family, my deepest condolences. Wes will live on in the hearts of all that knew him forever. See you on the other side Wes! Love, Ami Narramore

I met Wes soon after I began working at Hagerman NWR. I have fond memories of Wes helping at the deer check station and conducting browse surveys on the Refuge. Wes will be greatly missed, in large part to his laid back, relaxed attitude which immediately put you at ease during a meeting. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Dear Mrs. Littrell,
Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Wes, I feel like I knew him through the stories of my son, Chris. Christopher was an intern at GEWMA during the summers of 2007 and 2008. Initially Christopher did not get the job, but fortunately another student turned it down. I know that it was God's plan for Christopher to work with and for Wes. He loved his time at GEMWA burning & spraying & dismantling beaver dams. Christopher had many great stories of their adventures together! Chris recently graduated from Texas A & M and aspires to further his education and become a wildlife biologist.

I know that nothing can take away your pain, but may the knowledge that Wes is with his Heavenly Father comfort you. May you also be comforted by knowing that your husband made an impact on so many, including my son. His life mattered and I will be forever grateful.

We are so sorry to hear about your loss. I have many memories of Wes as a young boy hanging around on the farm. I am so sad to hear about the loss of someone I only knew as a little boy. But I always knew Wes was different. The Littrell kids, mine included, loved to go to Mawmaw and Pawpaw's and go in the creek on the 4th of July. Even though Wes was every bit a "Littrell kid"--he was always so nice, so well mannered, carried himself like "the responsible one" and was always a man among boys, and in my case, girls. I felt better letting Tessa and Blaine go when I knew Was was with them,

Mike and Lynn, I always aspired to be the parents that you were to Wes and Brad. Lynn, as a mother, I wish I could be half the mother that you are. Your boys always knew right from wrong, knew how to behave, were so well mannered, and knew they were loved. You could not have been a better parent.

I am so sorry for your tragedy. When my husband died, someone told me to keep every card, every letter, every momento in a scrap book. Going back to re-read it gives me some peace. That was great advice as I never could have imagined all the kind words.

I love ALL the Littrells, you will always be my family. My heart is breaking with you and for you. I know God will bless this baby in ways we could never imagine. He will also give you great comfort.

We were so saddened to hear of this. Wes was a great person and, as evidenced by his life, his parents did a fine job of raising him. There is no doubt he is in a better place and smiling down on all of us right now. May God be with you all during this time. We'll understand it all by and by.
