Nancy Hoffmann Obituary

Nancy Hoffmann
January 27, 2021
Okatie, South Carolina - NANCY BURRIDGE HOFFMANN
Died from heart failure January 27, 2021 on Spring Island, SC.
Nancy was born in Angleton, TX to Fred and Mabel Burridge, the third of four sisters. She lived there until she headed "North" to college at Southern Methodist University. She was the social chair and president of the Delta Zeta sorority. Her catchphrase while at SMU was to never miss a party. Even if there was a test in the morning, she didn't believe one should waste their time studying, just in case you died in your sleep. She was also the card section designer for the SMU football games.
After SMU, Nancy headed off to Paris to study art under a number of private tutors. That year helped develop her love of travel. When she was young, her father always said, "One can give Nancy a Sears catalogue and a road map and she thinks she has been somewhere". She traveled the world several times over during her life, loving her trips to India, Hong Kong, Africa and, especially, Paris.
Nancy moved to New York City in 1964 where she met her husband, John. There were married at Saint Thomas Church in 1968 and had 52 wonderful years of marriage. Nancy worked in sales for Monsanto. She co-founded Dollhouse Antics in the late 70s, a miniature store in Carnegie Hill on the Upper East Side. She built dollhouses in her dining room, made much of the furniture and needlepointed rugs on micro-canvases, many of which were copies of Stark and other famous brands.
Nancy was an amazing cook, having studied at the Cordon Bleu while in Paris and perfecting her skills by hosting hundreds of dinner parties. Nancy was also a skilled botanical watercolorist, studying for many years under the discerning eye of Anne-Marie Evans of London. She loved her garden, flower arranging and decorating. She also was an avid player bridge player.
Nancy made the most of her time in New York City, Bridgehampton, NY and on Spring Island, SC. She had friends everywhere. She was a member of the Colony Club in New York, The Bridgehampton Club, Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, Spring Island Club, The Garden Club of East Hampton and the Women of Saint Thomas Church in New York City.
Nancy is survived by her husband John, her daughter Catharine (Osborne), son-in-law Alan, her grandchildren, William, Grace and Henry; sister Shirley Asel and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Dorothy Flynn and Mildred Rentler. She will be missed by all.

Cat, Alan, William, Grace and Henry,
I am so sad to hear of Nancy's death. It is a huge loss and it is deeply felt.
I only met Nancy briefly, and I did not have an opportunity to know her well. But I wish I did. Her complete zeal for living life to its fullest is evident in her joie des vivre for her own home and for cities around the world. Moreover, her enthusiasm and generous spirit are most certainly manifest in your family. I have no doubt that this spirit will be carried on all of you. Her memory will always be a blessing. May the life of these memories always provide you comfort, peace and a sign of her enduring love and legacy.
With deep sympathy and love,
Cheryl, Bill, Kate, Will and Ben
