CHEROKEE VILLAGE - John Howard Muir B.S., M.S., Ph.D., 78 years old, of Cherokee Village, was born April 9, 1943, to Harry B. Muir and Ada Haddow Muir of Johnstown, N.D., and died Wednesday, June 30, 2021.
He married Dorothy "Dory" Lucke on Feb. 2, 1964.
He was the agronomist for the Firestone Rubber Plantation, in Liberia, West Africa, from 1974-79.
He did research for the University of Missouri, then taught soils at Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, and did research for the University of Arkansas at the same time.
He is survived by his wife, Dory; son, Jeffrey (Donna) Muir and grandson Tanner Muir of Knoxville, Tenn.
He is also survived by his brother, Ivan (Diane) Muir of Forest River, N.D.; sisters Helen (Tom) McDonald of Rosemount, Minn., and Carol Muir of Johnstown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his dad and mother.
Private burial will take place at Inkster, N.D.

He was a great teacher, adviser, and friend. His passing is far too soon. I will miss him tremendously. The Ag community has lost a Giant.

We are very sorry to hear of Dr. Muir's passing. It was a pleasure knowing him as a teacher, mentor and friend. Many ASU students have fond memories of his Soils class. Our condolences to the Muir family.
