Fred Moats Obituary

Moats, Fred 82, fought the good fight, finished the race and received his heavenly crown on Wednesday, July 27, 2016. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Central Christian Church. Those who knew Fred are encouraged to share their memories of him at the service or online. Fred, the oldest son of Elmer and Pauline Moats was born September 4, 1933 in Hutchinson, KS. He graduated from Wichita East High School in 1951 and joined the US Army in 1953. He served with the Honest John Rocket Unit in Hanau, Germany as a Radar operator. He married his sweetheart, Glenda, in 1954. Returning to Wichita, Fred learned drafting at Boeing aircraft, working as a tool designer. In 1968, he became the Director of Drafting at Central Drafting College, training many of Wichita's drafters until 1985. Fred was an ordained minister but saw himself as a missionary sharing the saving grace of God with everyone he met. He was a chaplain at the Sedgwick County Jail, the Juvenile Detention Facility, Union Rescue Mission, Sedgwick Plaza, and His Helping Hands, for many years. In his final days he still found the time and energy to pray with his nurses and those who came to visit him. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob Moats; and cousin, Jim Cline. Survived by his wife, Glenda; daughters, Kelly (Debbie Winn) Hanshew, Laura (Ken) McLemore; sister, Luana (Adrian) Horton; sisters-in-law, Betty Moats, Cheryl (John) Yasbec; grandchildren, Benjamin (Devin) Hanshew, Meghan (Jeremiah) McLemore Griffith, Erin (Kyle Hobbie) McLemore; 2 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A memorial has been established with His Helping Hands Ministry at Central Christian Church 2900 N. Rock Rd., Wichita, KS, 67226. Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel. I was sorry to hear of Fred's passing. He was my Drafting instructor in the early 70's and also taught my son in the late 80's. He was a fine man and a good Christian. I will miss him.

Dearest Glenda and family. As we say farewell to yet another of God's special warriors, I think back of the 40 years I've watched Fred Moats walking through the halls of CCC, attending my parents anniversary parties, then their funerals. He always had such a tall, quiet, kind presence. I'll miss that, but I'm rejoicing in the knowledge that he is now In the presence of our Lord and he and my dad are probably talking for hours! I send my prayers for you all that you will feel God's comfort and peace.

Dear Mr. Moats...I'm really just so sad to read of your passing. Although I just sampled a small little bite of your wisdom and stature, you will always be a king to me. Yes, I was one of your students at Central College. Through your patient guidance I
learned to care enough to do my very best on
every project. I took what you gave me and
turned it into a career lasting nearly 30 years at Pizza Hut Corporate. Heck, you are the one that told me there was job for me out at Pizza Hut so I put on a coat and tie and
took the drawings I had done for your class and bingo, I spent 27 years as head of their
site department. I drew and designed over
1700 Pizza Hut's and every one was a pure
reflection of you; your patience, your leading me in the right way of doing every thing I did....I'm crying a bit right now, not really weeping because I know you are in paradise with our good lord and savior. I
actually crying a bit for me....

I saw you periodically around town, and it was always a thrill to me...to see again the
person that made my life possible because you believed in me like no other person.

So thank you Mr. Moats....I love you Mr. Moats. Always have. I have to be out of town tomorrow but there will not be even one
moment when your presence will not be with me.

Farewell my sweet friend,

Patrick (Pat) Coulter

Now the world, who may not know our Lord, have another opportunity, through Fred, to learn of His saving grace. Fred was such an evangelist! Everywhere he went he shared about our Lord and that He died on the cross to save those who would come to Him. Fred has his reward now (and I am SO jealous!) He and Don are having a great reunion!

Fred Moats was a dear brother in Christ to me. He provided much strength in my weaker times in life at the Central Drafting College where he taught when I first met him. He also personally took me and two other students to his church to get baptized into Christ. Later on, he encouraged me to help him occasionally at the Union Rescue Mission, giving my testimony or leading songs. He was a pillar of strength and I loved him for the example of faith he showed me. He performed the ceremony at me and my wife Nikki's wedding in 1981. If anyone deserves many jewels in ones heavenly crown, Fred Moats does. He was a courageous worker for Jesus and I am very thankful we knew Fred Moats. Rest in the arms of Jesus my faithful friend; you have completed your journey.

Dear Fred and Glenda and family, What a wonderful photo reportage and all those memories we shared. From Hanau to Wichita, from the wine in my shoe on the Rhine and all the meals and outages in the German trains and your little English car. May you smile upon me from Heaven, your dearest friend -- Regina

My dearest memories of Uncle Fred were Christmas celebrations. He and Dad were silly and goofy in a very comforting way. He always made the best breakfast skillets and the house was full of love and laughter. Fred is a medical marvel for Moats men and I know he's at peace.

Another silly Uncle Fred...this is the guy I will alway remember...trying to make us laugh.

My silly Uncle Fred. He and Dad always clowned around. This time he got a vest for Christmas but 'thought' it was underwear! ;)

Fred was my husband's older brother, Bob, who passed away 30 years ago during a heart transplant. Fred made many trips to Kansas City during those last weeks to support me and the children. Did you know how very grateful I have always been to you, Fred? You were such a good man in every way and a true example of Christianity. I know that God lovingly reached out his hand to take you home. Love, Betty

Glenda, Kelly & Laura - I could never accurately express myself to show you what a special man Fred was to me and to all the family but you already know how special he was. I want all our loved ones back but we know Fred and the others before him are with our Father in Heaven. Someday we will be with them again. Love, Cheryl
