Walter Webster Obituary

Published by Tasker Funeral Home - Dover on Mar. 19, 2009.
South Berwick, ME –Walter E. Webster Jr., 92, of 39 Pond Road, went to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 17, 2009. He was born in Kingston, NH on July 14, 1916 to Walter Everett Webster, Sr. and Bertha Helen (Kruger) Webster.

Walter was a graduate of UNH, Class of 42 and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army.

For many years Walt was co-owner and salesman for Laird DeVou, a tool and die company, located in Massachusetts. His main territory was in Maine and New Hampshire. After retirement he was a volunteer at Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, NH for 17 years.

One of Walter’s greatest loves was raising chickens and all types of exotic birds. In his retirement of 27 years he took great pleasure in showing numerous school children his birds, as well as his vegetable and flower gardens. He loved working with his hands and had a gentleman’s farm that greatly helped raise his seven children. He was a member of First Parish Federated Church and was very involved in many committees.

Walter will be remembered by family and friends as a wonderful strong Christian man, who loved his family and especially the children. He always had a story or joke to tell and his kind heart was ever present. Walt was so proud of his family and through his many years touched many lives. He will be missed by so many.

Walter’s life: Two surviving sons, John N. Webster and David H. Webster both of South Berwick; four daughters: Susan A. Webster of Berwick, Betsy St. Pierre of Dover, Martha Perich of Manchester, and Jane Britain of Hopkinton; 28 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law and several cousins.

His wife, Mary Ellen (Romaine) Webster predeceased him after 64 years of marriage on March 11, 2008. He was also predeceased by his son, Walter E. Webster III, and grandson Joshua Webster.

Celebration: A Memorial service will be held on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at First Parish Federated Church, 150 Main St., South Berwick, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Preacher’s Aid Society o f NE, PO Box 3386, Plymouth, MA 02361-3386 or charity of choice.

Dear Martha, Jane, and family,
Please accept my condolences at this difficult time. My thoughts are with you and the rest of your family. Although I only met your father a couple of times, I recall our trip to Boston to meet your exchange student from South American a "few" years ago.

Dear Susan,John,David and family
Please know that my thoughts are with your family at this time. This has certainly been a roller coaster ride for the past year for all of you. Your Dad is where he has always wanted to be ( right beside your Mom).I will never forget when Rev.Donna announced their anniversary in church your Dad leaned over and kissed your Mom ( of course she was mortifed with the public display of affection ).It was so touching. They were both from a unique generation that found no shame in hard work and great faith. May you find peace in knowing that they are together through eternity. Blessings Bonnie Ham

I will never forget the times that we spent togeather at the farm with you teaching me all kinds of things from how to plant gladeolas to teaching me how to mow the lawn for the first time. I will never forget all of the great and wonderful things that you taught me grandpa with all of the funny jokes and great talked sessions that we had out in the garden. And I will never forget all of the amazing stories that you told me. I really appreciate all of the things that you did for me when I was younger grandpa like reading me my favorite book in the house the how to do things in the garden book I remember you reading that to me everytime that I came over. Dear David, John & Susan, The life of your dad was extraordinary in so many ways. As a young teenager I remember well seeing dad near his place as I would fish the little stream looking toward the family farm. He and his wife were as scripture would say,"salt of this earth". Because of his love and friendship I shall alway remember both your dad and mother. Time does not ease the pain of not having both of your parents alive. As Christians we have this hope that burned within our hearts that we will see our loved ones again. May we look forward to when Jesus shall call them forth from the their sleeping beds unto eternal life. May all the memories that you have will only strengthen with time as we await the Savior's return in glory. Sincerely in Christ, John & Sheryl Hersoms

Dear Susan, John, Betsy, David, Martha & Jane,
Rick and I send our prayers from Los Angeles for Uncle Walter and the family. Uncle Walt was truly one-of-a-kind and will be missed.
No political pundits today could match Uncle Walter and Aunt Betty and their political debates at Grandma Romaine's dinner table! Truly inspirational, thought provoking and often hilarious! I will miss that! :)
Much love to you all!
Hugs!

Susan,
So sad to hear about the passing of your Dad. He truly was a pleasure to all who met him. Jess and Kyle always loved going to Susan's Daddy's house to see the animals, especially the lambs in the spring.
