Brian L. Jennison

Brian Lester Jennison, 1950-2025 Brian Lester Jennison, 75, of Newmarket, New Hampshire, passed away on August 2, 2025. Born on June 15, 1950, Brian spent his early years traveling the East Coast with his family while his father served in the Navy. From a young age, he had a passion for the natural world, a love that would define his academic and professional life. As a boy, he was known for raising snakes and his dedication to the Boy Scouts, where he earned the prestigious Eagle Scout badge. He also had a lifelong love for music, playing the tuba in school bands from junior high through university. Brian's commitment to science led him to the University of New Hampshire, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Zoology in 1972. He continued his studies at the University of California, where he was awarded a Ph.D. in Marine Invertebrate Zoology in 1977. Following his academic career, Brian pursued his other great passion: photography. He became a professional photographer, specializing in capturing the beauty and power of trains. His love for rail lines led him to document many now-defunct routes, and some of his slides have since become cherished collector's items. With collaborator Don Marson, he also published "Railroads of the Pine Tree State," and other photographic essays of trains. Brian spent most of his working life with various government agencies in California, Nevada, Oregon and New Hampshire on air quality regulations- monitoring, enforcement, and documentation. He is survived by his older brother, Charles Jennison, and his nieces, Georgianna Jennison-Sawyer and Amanda Jennison-Sousa. Brian was preceded in death by his father, Lt. Commander Lewis L. Jennison and his mother, Myra P. Jennison. A private burial took place in Lee Hill Cemetery, Lee.
