Roy Thomas Obituary
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Jimmy Braswell officiating, assisted by Reverend Claire Richardson. Eulogies will be said by Jim Smitherman, and Glen Andrew. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery in McCamey. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Mr. Thomas was born on May 11, 1928 to Maude and Roy Lee Thomas on the Humble Oil Company Ricker Lease near McCamey, Texas.
He attended McCamey schools graduating in 1946 and continued his education at Texas Tech. On December 21, 1946, he married the love of his life, Erlene Bone. They were richly blessed with 61 years together and have three children; daughter Maribette and husband Max Mainord of Andrews, TX, son James Curtis Thomas and wife Karen of Midland, TX, and daughter Jolene Thomas of Odessa, TX. Curtis' greatest joy were his six grandchildren and six great grandchildren (and one on the way). They are granddaughter Michele and husband Doyle Weishuhn of Seminole, TX and children Hunter and McKaylee; grandson Marcus Mainord and wife Jamie of Fort Worth, TX and son Jacob; grandson Tres James Thomas of Midland, TX, and daughter Madison; granddaughter Marissa and husband Kris Lundberg of Fort Worth, TX and daughter Aubree; grandson Jarod Curtis Thomas and wife Paige of Midland, TX; and grandson Michael Paschal and Melonie of Lubbock, TX, and daughter Marin.
Curtis touched many lives through his faithful service at First Christian Church and through his various community involvement. Curtis always loved McCamey and its people.
He owned and operated Diamond Gas Company and Oil Service Company for 20 years. Curtis was also a director at Security State Bank and served as Chairman of the Board for many years.
Curtis was an avid supporter of McCamey Schools, Upton County 4-H, McCamey Chamber of Commerce, and the McCamey Lions Club.
Curtis and Erlene received the Pioneer Award in 2003. They are deeply rooted in McCamey, having spent their entire lives there.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you, Erlene and family, at your loss. Curtis was my good friend. Everytime I saw him he had a smile, a kind word and hug for me. I can almost hear him whistling on the golf course. He sounded happy as a lark. Don't you know he's "happy as a lark" being with our Lord and Savior! I love all of you.
