Agnes SOURS Obituary
SOURS, Agnes Romary
Of Sacramento, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday April 8, 2012.
Agnes was born September 9, 1918 near Lebo, Kansas. She attended school in Burlington, KS, and was active in the local Christian Church where she was a member of the youth group, played the piano and sang in the choir. Her lifelong long love affair with the piano started at age 7, and continued while she attended the University of Kansas, where majoring in piano and minoring in music composition, she graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree. She continued to play the piano until late 2011, when her failing health prevented it.
Agnes married Van W. Sours on June 5, 1942 in Reno, NV. Van was in the Air Force and served in Japan, returning in February, 1958. Upon his return they were sent to Pease AFB in Portsmouth, NH for 5 years. While in New Hampshire, Agnes was active in the Chapel, Chairman of the Women's Protestant Group, played the piano and sang in the choir. She was also the Director of the Officer's Wives Club Choral Group, which was a great joy to her. After the Cuban Missile crisis in 1962, Van decided to retire from the Air Force after 23 years, at which time they returned to Sacramento.
Agnes and Van were charter members of Arden Christian Church. Agnes sang in the choir and directed the choir for many years and remained a very active, participating member of the congregation her entire life.
After Van passed away in March 1989, Agnes and her sister Muriel Bright, also of Sacramento, made many trips together throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. Muriel was an avid geneologist and spent years tracing the Romary family history. Many trips were made to England to meet and cultivate relationships with other Romary family members. Agnes immediately developed long and loving relationships with her European relatives. Muriel passed away in November of 1995. Since that time Agnes continued to travel to four separate family reunions in England, Kansas, France, and lastly Sonoma with family and friends. Her older brother, John Romary, passed away in September of 2000.
Agnes will be remembered most for her love of Jesus, love of music, her many friends at Arden Christian Church, and her immediate family. She was a grand lady and touched the lives of everyone who had the opportunity to meet her during her life. She will be missed.
She is survived by nephew Ross Romary and wife Carol from Mansfield TX , nephew J. Craig Romary and wife Janet from Sedalia CO, grand nephew Kevin Romary and wife Rebecca from Lawrence, KS, grand niece Kristen Knoll and husband Pat of Parker, CO, and niece, Nancy Waldie and husband George, and son Jared of Sacramento CA, niece Sarah Clark and husband Ron of Webb City, MO; nephew Greg Moore and wife Beverly of Plano, TX; niece Jerilyn Sanderson and husband Darryl of Baton Rouge, LA; niece Melanie Johnson of Maryland, sister-in-law Betty Johnson and husband Gene of Colorado; and numerous great-grandnephews and nieces.
