Beverly “Bev” Jean Berdahl was born on October 8, 1926, in Colton, SD, the second daughter to William and Clara (Berg) Berdahl. She lived with her family in Colman and Sioux Falls, returning to Colton when she was in third grade. She graduated from Colton High School in 1944. Beverly attended Augustana College, Iowa State University and graduated from South Dakota State University. She taught Home Economics for 28 years at Orland, Chester, Rutland, Baltic and West Central. She also worked at the Community Bank in Colton and was a part-time bookkeeper for Van’s Implement for a while. Beverly married Robert “Bob” Skrovig at the First Lutheran Church on August 3, 1947, in Colton. They continued to reside in Colton the rest of their lives where they raised their two sons, James (Jim) and Thomas (Tom).
Bev was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Colton and was active in the First Lutheran Women’s groups. She participated in the women’s quilting at the church for many years. She was kind to everyone she knew and cared deeply for the hundreds of students she taught over the years. Bev was well known for attending her family’s activities rain or shine, baking, puzzles, card games, and newspaper archivist skills. It was common for her to share her newspaper clippings with neighbors, family, or friends; of any articles that related to them. On a hot summer day, you knew you could always count on Grandma Skrovig having frozen treats for her grandkids, great-grandkids, and friends. Her entire family kept her heart full and busy.
Thankful to have shared her life, Bev is survived by her son, Jim (DeLonde) Skrovig of Sioux Falls; daughter-in-law, Tami Skrovig of Lake Madison; grandchildren, Rick Capes, Jeff (Kim) Skrovig, Renae Jensen, Brian (Abby) Skrovig; great-grandchildren, Mason, Austin, Landon, Jada, Madelyn, Brooklyn, Ryan, and Sloane.
Bev is reunited with her family in heaven; her husband, Bob; son, Tom; parents, William and Clara Berdahl; and sisters, Darlene Shedden, Marilyn Kluter, Cleone Foster, and Wilma "Jo" Swier.
